Responsibilities

Provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the treatment of health problems and the promotion of health

Develop and document a plan of care for each patient, including a complete medical history that includes essential and accurate information, a physical examination, diagnosis of the causes of injuries and illnesses, appropriate treatment and/or referral, and hospital visitations when necessary

Make informed diagnostic and therapeutic decisions based on patient information, current scientific evidence, clinical judgment and patient preference. Utilize appropriate evidence-based medical guidelines and protocols

Prescribe, and perform competently, medical procedures considered essential for the scope of practice

Counsel and communicate effectively to create and sustain meaningful and therapeutic relationships with patients, their families and caregivers

Utilize information technology to optimize patient care

Work effectively with others as a member or leader of a healthcare team

Demonstrate dignity, integrity, excellence, compassion, stewardship, and responsiveness and accountability to the needs of patients

Portray a commitment to ethical principles pertaining to the provision or withholding of clinical care, confidentiality of patient information, informed consent and business practices
