Responsibilities

Provide leadership in planning, implementing, marketing, and evaluating educational programs and activities with measurable impacts
Be a team player and support the total Extension program
Network with broad audiences, customers, volunteers, Extension Specialists, and the local Extension staff
Actively seek outside resources to enhance the program
Develop and implement innovative strategies for presenting educational programs
The Extension Agent in this position will provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of an effective livestock educational program to meet the needs of the county
This position demands a responsible and self-motivated individual with outstanding relationship skills and a strong background in livestock production and 4-H youth livestock development
The position will also include responsibilities for forages
Knowledge of cattle production (beef and dairy) and small livestock operations (backyard poultry, fiber animals, niche meat production) is necessary to be successful with the breadth of livestock educational needs in the county
Work closely with 4-H staff and volunteers involved with youth livestock programming to create a successful and impactful effort for the county’s youth
Required to serve on the Haywood County Fair Planning Committee
Coordinates all youth livestock and poultry shows for the annual county fair

Required

A Bachelor's degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) in an agricultural or related field
The minimum GPA requirement will be waived for NCCE Program Associates with a Bachelor's degree
A Bachelor's degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master's degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field
Completion of a Master's degree with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field
Frequent travel within the county and occasional travel outside the county
Strong background in livestock production and 4-H youth livestock development
Valid NC Driver's License required
