Responsibilities
Drive Grocery Outlet’s near term and long term financial models (P&L, Cash Flow, and Balance Sheet), including forecasting, end-to-end annual budget process, and long-range planning for our entire business
Prepare, compile, analyze and communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and operational results. Partner with accounting and business stakeholders to continuously improve our close process and improve our forecasting accuracy
Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders to support strategy and decision-making. Work cross functionally to ensure accurate reporting on all financial metrics and key performance indicators, develop insights, understand variances, and identify actions with business owners
Assess, identify and execute business process improvements and cost savings initiatives across the business
Act as a key liaison between FP&A, treasury, accounting, and business unit leaders on all capital planning matters
Manage the capital approval process, ensuring projects meet financial hurdles and adhere to corporate policy
Evaluate business cases for major capital projects, acquisitions, and divestitures, including NPV/IRR and payback analyses
Partner with IT, operations, real estate, and strategy teams to prioritize investments based on financial return and strategic fit
Monitor post-investment performance against approved business cases and provide variance analyses
Prepare quarterly and annual capital forecasts, linking project-level spending to cash flow and balance sheet impacts
Support treasury in analyzing financing alternatives (debt vs. lease vs. equity) for major investments
Lead in-depth strategic financial analysis to support strategic initiatives and develop recommendations for senior leadership
Help develop talent and coach FP&A analysts
Provide regular and ad hoc support to executive team including: Quarterly Board meeting materials, earnings call preparation, strategic offsites, etc
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related required
Proven experience (6+ years) in financial planning and analysis with a significant portion in a retail setting
Experience in retail finance will be an advantage
Strong understanding of retail operations and in-depth understanding of a retailers P&L, cash flow, and balance sheet
Excellent analytical skills, financial modeling capabilities, and an ability to quickly break down complex problems and reach creative solutions
Passion for improving processes, tools, and systems
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders
Collaborative, passionate, self-motivated, enthusiastic, organized, and teachable
Working knowledge of GAAP to facilitate understanding of forecast and budget results
Strong MS Office/Excel skills are required
Preferred
MBA or advanced degree is preferred
Public company experience is a plus
Experience with a financial planning system (SAP, Axiom, etc.) is a plus
