Sr. Manufacturing Engineer - Coatings

GE Aerospace is seeking a highly skilled Senior Manufacturing Engineer specializing in coatings for aerospace and defense applications to join their team. In this role, you will lead the development, optimization, and implementation of advanced coating processes for critical aerospace components, ensuring compliance with industry standards and delivering measurable improvements in Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC). You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new product introductions and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and optimize coating processes, including thermal spray coatings, physical vapor deposition (PVD), chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and plasma coatings
Ensure coatings meet stringent aerospace and defense requirements for wear resistance, corrosion protection, thermal insulation, and environmental durability
Develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures, and technical specifications
Provide expertise in advanced coating technologies, including ceramic coatings, metallic coatings, and polymeric coatings
Lead troubleshooting efforts for coating-related manufacturing challenges, such as adhesion issues, surface preparation, and coating uniformity
Stay updated on emerging coating technologies and materials relevant to aerospace and defense applications
Identify and implement lean manufacturing principles to improve coating process efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance productivity
Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for coating defects or process deviations
Collaborate with the FLIGHT DECK team to align with GE Aerospace’s proprietary lean operating model
Support the introduction of new products by developing robust coating processes for new designs and materials
Partner with design engineering teams to ensure manufacturability and performance of coated components
Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new coating technologies
Oversee MRL development
Ensure all coating processes comply with aerospace and defense industry standards, including NADCAP, AS9100, and customer-specific requirements
Develop and implement quality control measures, including non-destructive testing (NDT) and coating thickness measurement
Promote a culture of safety and ensure adherence to all safety protocols
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design engineering, quality, supply chain, and operations
Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians
Communicate technical updates and project progress to stakeholders

Required

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university + minimum of 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience
Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship

Preferred

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred
Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on coatings for aerospace and defense applications
Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of coating processes, including thermal spray, PVD, CVD, and plasma coatings
Familiarity with aerospace materials, including superalloys, titanium, and composite substrates
Proficiency in process simulation tools and statistical process control (SPC)
Certifications: NADCAP certification in coating processes is highly desirable
Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Proficiency in lean manufacturing principles and tools
