Youth Program Education Assistant I/Asst. Team Leader (Sampson County) - Temporary

The N.C. Department of Information Technology is seeking a temporary Youth Program Education Assistant I to work at the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy. This role involves mentoring and supervising at-risk youth, ensuring a safe environment, and documenting occurrences during shifts.

Responsibilities

Employee works collaboratively to assure a safe environment for 16-18 year olds who are attending the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy Program
Position functions as a mentor, advisor, counselor and teacher while communicating the program standards and expectations to the cadets
Employee identifies factors that could lead to inappropriate behavior and make immediate corrections
Position has the most interaction with the cadets and serves as the front line supervisor responsible for all aspects of academy life
Responsible for documenting occurrences during shift and briefing follow on shifts concerning any problems or issues
Position initiates counseling statement/incident reports as needed to document inappropriate behavior

Required

Associate's degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
CPR certification and listing as a Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation required prior to providing direct patient care

Preferred

Experience with teaching, coaching and mentoring 16–18-year-old at-risk youth
Experience observing, assessing and collecting data associated with at-risk youth behavior (failing to follow instructions, altercations with other cadets, disrespecting adult leaders and/or peers)
Experience in organizing and/or leading groups for training or service projects
