Surgical Technologist - Per Diem
Catholic Health is focused on excellent patient experience and nursing excellence, and they are seeking a Surgical Technologist to work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The role involves delivering safe and effective care to patients during the intraoperative period, assisting with planning patient care, maintaining aseptic technique, and ensuring patient safety.

Responsibilities
Assists the RN in planning patient care by appropriately selecting supplies and equipment needed for cases
Checks that instrumentation and equipment are in working order
Maintains aseptic technique throughout set up and surgical intervention
Shows awareness of patient condition and special needs
Anticipates surgeons' needs during intraoperative phase
Maintains patient safety by adhering to fire prevention strategies
Maintains patients safety by adhering to safe medication handling strategies
Communicates equipment/instrumentation issues to the appropriate personnel (CSS, Materials Manager, AHN, Director). Performs "down time" assignments (checking outdates, stocking, rooms, picking cases, etc.)
Performs counts according to hospital policy
Initiates appropriate procedure for incorrect counts
Correctly handles and identifies surgical specimens
Safely disposes of biohazardous material
Actively participates in room turnover between cases
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or equivalent required
Completion of accredited surgical technologist program required
New York State Surgical Technologist Certification through the NBSTSA required
On-call rotation required
BLS from American Heart Association required
Must be computer-literate
Must be able to read and write basic English
Preferred
Prior surgical technician experience preferred
