Responsibilities
Safely perform magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies using a magnetic resonance imaging system
Prepare patients, position them, set imaging parameters, acquire images, perform computer processing, and display images
Select appropriate imaging protocols for patient studies and perform quality assurance scans as required
Work cohesively as a team member within the MRI Department and consult appropriate content experts as needed
Confirm patient name, date of birth, medical record number, and MRI exam ordered with each patient
Prepare patient, position for exam, set imaging parameters per protocol, perform computer processing, and display images at request for both clinical and research patients
Manage ambulatory/outpatient patients needing MRI exams with and without contrast
Insert IV catheters as needed and prepare for and perform intravenous injection of MR contrast agents
Understand and communicate the possible contraindications and monitor for adverse reactions to MR contrast agents
Record all information regarding contrast injections appropriately in electronic medical record (EMR)
Perform point of care testing (POCT) where applicable
Instruct patients and visitors on MRI safety procedures and ensure adherence to safety policies
Function as final checkpoint for patient safety and protocol clarification prior to scanning
Identify hazardous system malfunctions; secure area and remove patients and personnel from magnet bay during emergency situations
Perform scheduled quality control procedures on MRI scanner and other related equipment
Record QA results as required and report any potential equipment related problems to supervisor
Assist Practice Assistant and other department staff in various duties as necessary
Qualification
Required
Certificate/Diploma in medical imaging required
MRI certification (ARRT or ARMRIT) required within 1 year
CPR within 90 days
Preferred
Associate's in medical imaging preferred
