Quality Control Specialist II
The Public Health Institute (PHI) is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting health and well-being. The Quality Control Specialist II will support the Data Quality Control Unit by addressing questions related to abstracting and coding, conducting audits, and collaborating with various teams to ensure data quality.

Responsibilities
Reviews and resolves CRGC Potential Duplicate cases on a monthly basis
Serves as the CRGC administrator for the CCR Inquiry System for abstracting and coding questions
Responds to abstracting and coding questions from CRGC reporting facility registrars
Coordinates and monitors the answering of abstracting and coding questions from CRGC staff and hospital registrars
Conducts data reviews specific to the SEER Data Quality Profile indicators as directed
Conducts data reviews initiated by the CCR or CRGC to further improve data quality
Conducts various types of audits, including but not limited to casefinding and reabstracting audits as required
Participates in CCR-led recoding audits as required
Maintains best practice documents for both internal and external registrar staff
Collaborates with the CRGC Education and Training point of contact and Data Quality Control Director to identify education and training needs for the registrar staff
Works with the CRGC Data Analyst to resolve the SEER edits and coordinates the completion of these edits in a timely manner
Attends monthly CRGC Data Quality Meetings
Attends bi-monthly SEER Quality Improvement Experts/Manager’s Meetings
Attends monthly Production calls with the central registry and the other California SEER registries
Collaborates with the Data Collection Unit staff and the Research Unit staff when needed
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
5 years of experience in a broad range of cancer registry functions, including case identification, abstracting, coding, and quality control activities
Bachelor's degree in a health care related field or substitute with four additional years of related experience
Credentialed by the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS)
Excellent knowledge of cancer identification, coding and abstracting procedures, cancer disease process, and national and state cancer reporting and coding standards (SEER, NPCR, and California Cancer Registry)
Demonstrated ability to perform detailed analysis of complex problems and present solutions
Ability to apply complex rules and explain logic
Ability to interpret cancer reporting standards and answer technical questions for new and experienced registrars, both internal and external
Advanced computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software applications)
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Must be able to pass the background checks required for this position
