MLK Program Coordinator (Athletics, Sports, Leisure & Operations)

NEOGOV is seeking a MLK Program Coordinator to oversee the planning and management of athletics, sports, leisure, and recreational programs. This role involves administrative and technical responsibilities, including supervising teams, coordinating events, and ensuring the effectiveness of programs at the MLK Recreation Campus.

Responsibilities

Oversee the permitting of special events, field and facility usage
Supervises, mentors and leads teams for programming areas assigned to Coordinator
Schedules and coordinates long-term and short-term recreation, goals and objectives pertaining to Parks, Culture and Recreation programs and services
Develops, supervises and promotes diverse programming, activities and events for all ages and abilities, including but not limited to recreation, sports, education, fitness, wellness, etc
Coordinates with other team members in the planning, organizing and implementing of shared programs and facilities
Performs necessary preparation of programming, activities or event venues and ensures availability of needed equipment and supplies
Monitors and supervises the daily operations of the Parks, Culture and Recreation facilities in regard to programming, activities and events
Coordinates, implements and evaluates the effectiveness of all programs, daily activities and usage
Responsible for coordinating the preparation and distribution of marketing products and advertisements such as fliers, brochures and news releases regarding recreation programs and activities
Directs, trains and instructs team members and volunteers in methods and procedures
Evaluates team member’s work performance and makes recommendations for improvement
Plans and works with team to maintain the athletic facilities
Develops, implements and supervises a sponsorship/participation programs with local organizations, vendors and businesses
May act as City representative in cooperation of civic and community organizations concerning activities as directed by the Parks, Culture and Recreation Director
Supervises, schedules and evaluates instructors or seasonally assigned team members
Address team member’s concerns in a prompt and effective manner
Makes recommendations regarding the work to be performed in the assigned facility, event and park
Assists in the maintenance of inventory of materials and equipment
Maintain supportive, courteous, cooperative and effective working relationships with team members, other departments, supervisors, leadership team, vendors and the general public including seniors, parents and children
Completes work orders and reports on work performed
Ensures proper safety procedures, training and guidelines are followed
Communicates with facility visitors by phone, email and in person, in a professional, courteous and efficient manner
Resolves problems in a timely manner
Conducts assessments to ensure the Parks, Culture and Recreation needs of the community are being met
Maintains up-to-date records, including preparation of reports needed by other team members
Perform administrative work as necessary to support the Parks, Culture and Recreation department and its mission
Performs other duties as required

Required

Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, Business Administration, Education or a related field preferred
Three (3) years of experience in an organized recreation or parks-related position, with progressively programming experience
Experience in recreational, athletic principles, dynamics of programming athletic events and principles of community-based recreation programs
CPR and First Aid certified or ability to obtain within four (4) months
Valid Driver's License
Knowledge and skills in various sports and leisure activities including basketball, soccer, football, fitness and other active programs
Knowledge of field maintenance including courts, fields, etc
Knowledge of departmental rules, regulations, procedures, functions and personnel and ability to apply these to complex work problems and situations
Ability to keep records and reference files, to assemble and organize data and to prepare composite reports
Ability to establish and maintain professional, cooperative, team-focused and effective relationships with team members, other agencies, other departments, leaders and the general public
Strong skills in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Ability to learn and utilize third-party software in an independent and efficient manner
Ability to perform multiple and concurrent tasks, often under time constraints/deadlines and/or in an environment of frequent interruptions
Knowledge of the City of Panama City and surrounding areas. Potentially in a volunteer capacity
Possess several technical skills and knowledge in a wide range of community engagement, recreation, health and wellness activities for all ages
Excellent ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing
Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to pay close attention to details
Strong customer service skills
