Kinross Nevada - Senior Environmental Engineer

Responsibilities
Develop, coordinate & monitor all activities related to safe operations of heap leach facilities (HLF), including permitting, design, and surveillance (including monitoring and inspection), emergency planning, and HLF management plans and procedures follow all applicable regulatory requirements or Kinross Standards for the Nevada sites
Coordinate, participate, and manage the Engineer of Record (EoR) inspection(as needed) to track the performance of the HLF for Nevada sites. Coordinate, participate in, and manage EoR inspections, third party reviews, and other HLF inspections/reviews
Manage & implement any & all action plans and schedules for any internal or external review reports at the Nevada sites after VP-GM approval of such action plans
Support the process teams, deputy General Manager (GM) and Vice President-General Manager (VP-GM) in decision making for the HLFs
Coordinate with the Director, Tailings and Environment (DTE) to ensure that corporate requirements are met
Coordinate & assist the Project Superintendent on any new and/or expansion construction of the Nevada sites HLFs
Manage, complete, and ensure all reporting requirements, including any action item status are completed on-time to the VP-GM & the DT
Manage, coordinate & monitor all activities related to tailings including technical aspects, safe operation, permitting, design, construction, operation, surveillance (includes monitoring and inspection), and emergency preparedness
Frequently communications with the Environmental Manager, Nevada Operations to ensure that regulatory commitments are met & proactively managed & effectively communicate with site personnel regarding tailings & regulatory obligations
Coordinate, participate in, and manage the agency inspections, annual EoR inspection, third party reviews, and other tailings inspections. Interact with EoR to track the performance of the tailings facility
Review, update & submit as needed annually the Operation, Maintenance and Surveillance (OMS) manual, Emergency Action Plan (EAP), prior to annual dam safety inspection
Coordinate with Environmental personnel water balance, management of process water, reclaim water management & seepage performance. Water balance to align with Kinross Water Management Standard
Lead the Run-Out Studies for the Nevada sites: Coordinate with the EoR the development of the run-out locations, analysis assumptions & types, & the requested level of detail in modeling & run-out mapping and review with DTE prior to completing the run-out study
Ensure the Nevada site Tailings management plans are following all applicable regulatory or Kinross standards requirements
Manage, complete, & ensure all reporting requirements, including any action item status are completed on-time to the VP-GM & the DT
Effectively communicate with regulatory and government agencies, site personnel, and professional associations, to develop and maintain good working relationships and regulatory compliance as needed
Complete permitting activities in a timely manner working in collaboration with site personnel
Monitor proposed environmental regulatory changes with an eye to their effect on operations and demands on resources (personnel, financial)
Inform the Environmental Manager Nevada Operations, immediately of any compliance or permitting issues that may affect the company
Comply with all company policies and procedures
Meet or exceed the performance expectations established by management
Punctuality and regular attendance required
Perform other functions as assigned by supervisor
Qualification
Required
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering
A Bachelor's or Master's in a related scientific or engineering discipline will be considered (e.g., metallurgical, civil or mining engineering; geology, chemistry, hydrology, etc.)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Able to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management, regulators/other governmental representatives
Strong organizational and administrative skills
Able to effectively describe environmental regulatory requirements to a diverse workforce
Able to work independently and as part of a team, in cooperation with other departments at the Nevada sites
Experience supervising and evaluating the performance of others
Experience using the following software: Microsoft Products
Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Must have a valid driver's license
Complies with all Kinross & Nevada sites health, safety and environmental policies and procedures
Have a strong commitment to safe working practices
Is alert and observes, corrects, and reports unsafe conditions
Follows operating procedures and complies with all regulatory requirements
Preferred
Previous environmental experience is preferred
8 years of mining experience is preferred
Work experience at a gold mine is also preferred
Experience in Waste, NEPA Permitting, Reclamation, and Air Quality would be assets but is not required
Experienced with system(s)/database(s) established to manage regulatory obligations is preferred but not required
Preference will be given to experience using the following software: 'Monitor Pro' or other environmental records/obligations management system, AutoCAD, Map 3D or other GIS software, GoldSim
Preference may be given to an individual with working experience in Nevada
