Responsibilities

Demonstrates Excellence by Consistently Produces Scans of Optimal Diagnostic Quality on Patients Ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric:
Maintains thorough knowledge of the operating parameters of the scanners
Ability to operate the CT scanners and related equipment efficiently and effectively
Follows established scanning protocols
Demonstrates proficiency in scanning trauma, acute & challenging patients or situations; possess skill to modify positioning and scanning factors when standard cannot be performed
Possess knowledge of disease processes and images these findings adequately; communicate them to the Radiologist
Ability to recognize and adapt scanning to pathology
Images are labeled correctly and identified according to protocol
Scans patient of all ages, tailoring the exam to the age to the age group to provide optimal images
Proficient at performing CTA scans and retrospective reconstruction
Knowledgeable of cardiac anatomy and contraindications; ability to perform Coronary Scans and Calcium Scoring
Completes quality scans in a timely manner, effectively organizes and prioritizes workflow to meet STAT and urgent demands
Demonstrates competency in the safe usage of the power injector and adheres to set guidelines
Acceptable gauge/site for peripheral power injector
Acceptable Central Venous Catheter for power injector
Demonstrates Accountability for Clinical Responsibilities for CT:
Completes procedure by ensuring the exam ordered and performed is entered correctly in Meditech and moved to TAKEN at time of REVIEWING the images in PACS
Completes required documentation in PACS and Meditech
Obtains pertinent patient history, and relays it to the Radiologist to assist in diagnosis or treatment; provides reason for non-standard images
Ensures the patient is charged correctly for medication/contrast and supplies. Informs patient if additional scans are performed
Performs daily Fascal, weekly Phantoms Quality Control tests; appropriate action is taken for variances
Demonstrates Accountability for Safety Practices in CT and Diagnostic Imaging:
Identifies patient verbally and confirms with 2 patient identifiers (order or request) with patient ID band during first contact and prior to medication administration
Performs “Procedural Pause” on all exams; verifies exam/side and ensures Meditech order matches the written order. Ensures indicators for procedure is appropriate
Medications and sharps are secured at all times
Administer contrast media in accordance with the Medication Usage and Contrast Policies:
Medications are secure at all times; removed from Acudose after patient screening and prior to administration
Practices the 5-rights for medication administration
Evaluates and documents complete contrast questionnaire about medical history, allergies, and contrast history prior to all administration
Relays to supervising radiologist or physician as appropriate; documents
Completes Risk Management Report in Meditech for Medication/ADR related events. Completes required documentation and reporting for extravasations
Follows set guidelines when performing venipuncuture; has completed approval process
Conducts Fall Assessment when acquiring patients from room and returning patients to rooms/ED
Demonstrates safe practice with HIGH risk for fall patients; does not leave unattended
Adheres to radiation plan consistently demonstrates an awareness of Radiation Safety Practices
Protects self, patient, staff and public from unnecessary radiation
Screens and documents the possibility of pregnancy on all women of the childbearing age
Employs techniques to minimize radiation exposure by adhering to the ALARA program
Follows set scan protocols and CTDI and utilizing patient CT shields as appropriate
Protects patient, public and self by adhering to Infection Control Policies and guidelines
Safely transports patient by utilizing the transporting policies and performing patient “Hand-Off” at all periods of patient exchange
Demonstrates preparedness for patient arrest or critically ill patients; aware of technologist role in code
Accountability for Providing Full Support by Performing Job Related Duties:
Performs end of shift review of all exams not moved to taken and exams ordered and not performed before exiting shift; uses Meditech Patient Tracker /Ordered Exam list to indentify exams in ordered status
Proficient in operating Meditech, PACS, Scanner/Room Worklist, CR units and Printers; ability to trouble-shooting and request additional training as needed. Ability to copy images to CD or print to laser printers
Performs the outlined process for CT equipment malfunctions are possible malfunctions
Maintains a clean organized and safe work environment, food and drinks are not taken out of designated areas
Maintains stock in the area and contact appropriate person for re-orders
Performs other duties/task as requested
Demonstrates Integrity Consistent with the Hospital Mission:
Functions independently and problem solves effectively, considering alternatives
Ensures imaging and support equipment is functioning properly. Follows protocol for malfunctions
Assists with recruiting, training, and providing performance feedback for team members
Consistently reports to work on time and ready for first assignment
Takes call on a rotating basis. Arrives at facility within 30 minutes of receipt of call
Attends staff meetings. When absent, is responsible for obtaining information from meetings
Demonstrates Respect During all Interactions:
AIDET is used in all exam interactions
Soliciting patient cooperation by explaining procedure to patients and family in terms they understand attempts to clarify any misconceptions; communicates with patient during the exam. Education is documented
Maintains awareness of patient safety, patient privacy, confidentiality and dignity at all times
Effectively use the Hospital “Service Recovery” when warranted
Communicates with Charge Technologist/s to ensure department runs efficiently
Demonstrates Compassion to the needs of others:
Displays flexibility and volunteers to work odd or extra shifts when workloads or absences warrant
Participates in efficient room turnover
Demonstrate understanding of HCA’s and “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures

Required

Graduate of an American Medical Association approved program in Radiologic Technology
CT curriculum covering 3 semester hours of Sectional Anatomy or 16 hours post graduate CEU's Cross Sectional Anatomy
Certified or Temporary Certified by Texas Department of State Health Services as a Medical Radiologic Technologist
Certified in Radiology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT, RTR)
Post-primary CT certification within 1 year of CT assignment
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS
One year experience performing Computed Tomography procedures
