Staff Geotechnical Engineer (Houston)
Burns & McDonnell is a company that specializes in engineering services, and they are seeking a Staff Geotechnical Engineer to support project teams in creating designs for various projects. The role involves performing geotechnical design and analysis, field observation, and compiling project-related data to ensure successful project execution.
Responsibilities
Performs field reconnaissance and geological research to evaluate site-specific geologic and hydrogeologic conditions and risks
Develops work scopes and subcontracts for subsurface investigations in support of geotechnical design and evaluation efforts
Performs research and compiles project related data as required by the project team
Assists with compiling geotechnical data, boring logs and subsurface profiles
Research and compile project related data as required by the project team
Performs field observation of site investigation activities
Perform geotechnical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion
Perform geotechnical engineering analyses, design and evaluation related to shallow and deep foundation systems, settlement analyses, slope stability evaluations, retaining structures, consideration of seismic effects, and earthwork
Prepare and review of engineering design calculations, reports, specifications and construction documents, and other technical documents as needed
Applies strong knowledge of commonly used geotechnical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the geotechnical engineering services industry
Prepare and review drawings for a variety of geotechnical-related project components
Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration
Performs geotechnical-related construction observation during the construction phase of projects
All other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program required
Minimum 3 years of related geotechnical engineering experience required
The individual must have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
Strong knowledge and proficiency in standard geotechnical engineering techniques, principles, and procedures
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills
Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills
Analytical and problem-solving skills are required
Preferred
Master of Science Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering (with Geotechnical Emphasis) from an ABET accredited program strongly preferred
PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering (with Geotechnical Emphasis) preferred
Proficient geotechnical software skills preferred, including Ensoft LPILE, slope stability (GeoStudio or UTEXAS4), liquefaction analysis software, excavation support and wall design software
