Responsibilities

Review driveway permits, encroachments, road additions, and road abandonments
Assist with the development of secondary road construction programs, including surveying, permitting, funding coordination, and utility coordination
Conduct technical studies and projects, prepare technical letters and reports, attend planning and zoning meetings, and provide DOT-related comments to developers
Budget, prepare preliminary construction estimates for alternative highway designs, and develop layouts for interchanges, roadway typical sections, and grades
Compute horizontal design elements such as curves, spirals, alignment offsets, and roadway transitions
Contribute to the development of thoroughfare plans for municipalities, counties, and planning regions; perform roadway and highway systems studies; and prepare recommendations with supporting analysis for transportation projects
Evaluate field data and incorporate results into transportation studies, review contract plans, specifications, and agreements for accuracy, and maintain official project records
Develop project schedules, create standard drawings and design details, support roadway design and layout efforts, and assign work to technicians
Provide assistance to senior engineers in the design and preparation of roadway and structure construction contracts

Required

Experience in reading and interpreting highway construction plans and contracts
Experience in directing, assisting or training of sub-ordinate employees
Experience administering contracts
Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering
Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying

Preferred

Prefer a Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
