Mechanical Engineering Department Manager (PE)
Barry-Wehmiller is a diversified global supplier of engineering consulting and manufacturing technology. In this role, you will lead mechanical and plumbing design professionals, manage department workflow, and ensure the quality of design and construction documents for various clients.

Responsibilities
Lead mechanical and plumbing design professionals, execute the production of design deliverables, manage the department workflow and resources, participate in resource workload projections, and develop cost estimates
Define, lead and implement design concept and development; assume responsibility for overall quality of design and construction documents
Manage technical coordination and communication within the department and between departments, project managers, and leadership
Review the technical accuracy of the work products for accuracy and completeness
Seal construction documents as the Engineer of Record
Coordinate with vendors to manage equipment sizing, hydronic piping system design, and selection of mechanical equipment
Conduct site evaluations and studies and write technical reports
Ensure components, materials, and tools are used to capacity
Review, edit, and develop project specifications
Assist project managers in proposal development (hours calculation, sheet count, scope of work, project strategy and constraints, clarifications and exclusions)
Prepare RFPs for subconsultants, 3rd party resources, and any other specialty consultants
Review and summarize bids and make recommendations on to whom contracts should be awarded
Develop standards and best practices to improve quality and efficiency within the department
Participate in local, regional, and national organizations that are involved in the development of the profession or the regulatory guidelines that form the framework of the practice
Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to the professionals within the department; acts as a resource for engineers
Provide regular performance feedback and annual merit reviews for the design team
Perform peer reviews of colleagues’ work
Assist in the growth and development of the organization and business by participating in marketing proposal development and actively engaging in the recruitment of new Barry-Wehmiller Design Group professionals
Administer operations in accordance with company policies, priorities, and budget constraints
Make an impact day-to-day with your skills and expertise, strengthening that relationship with our clients and team
Qualification
Required
A minimum of 15 years of experience in designing industrial facilities for mechanical systems including water, chilled water, wastewater, HVAC, cooling towers/condensers, boiler/steam, hot water, or compressed air
Solid interpersonal, mentorship, leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Proficiency in technical writing
Expertise in the use of Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel
Proficiency in the use of software for the design and analysis of building HVAC systems
A willingness to relocate to the local area (relocation assistance is available for highly qualified applicants)
A willingness to travel up to 25% to project sites
A bachelor of science in engineering from an ABET accredited program (mechanical preferred)
An active Professional Engineering (PE) license in at least one state and a willingness to obtain licensure in additional states, as requested
Preferred
An understanding of refrigeration design with ammonia, freon, CO2, dehumidification, and other custom plumbing systems for industrial manufacturing facilities in the food processing, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries
Experience in the design of refrigeration or fire protection systems
A Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) credential
