Senior Platform Engineer - US Remote

QSIC is reinventing in-store audio with innovative technology that enhances retail experiences. The Senior Platform Engineer will collaborate with various teams to manage a distributed fleet of media players and smart speakers, improving deployment processes and troubleshooting network issues.

Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product and Operations teams to support and improve the management of our device and smart speaker fleet installed on client networks
Support our Operations team with deep technical troubleshooting and expertise, collaborating with customer IT/Network stakeholders as required
Investigate and collaborate on technical & configuration issues on customer networks such as firewall configurations, routing and DNS
Contribute to the design and implementation of fleet management tools used to build and deploy our software across our fleet, including observability and alerting tools
Be a subject matter expert to help design systems which deliver a high quality in store experience, while allowing engineers to work in a fast, safe environment
Participate in discussions with QSIC teams to ensure that our entire product is designed to take into account the complexity of the in store environment when managing a fleet of distributed devices at scale
Stay updated on industry trends, market dynamics, and best practices in engineering
Continuously seek opportunities for team process improvement and innovation

Required

Experience in Software Engineering, Network Engineering, DevOps or System Administration
Experience working with IOT devices
Worked in or alongside Operations, DevOps, or Technical Support teams
Experience in software development, such as web or mobile application development, as distinct from infrastructure scripting or automation
Technical fluency in: Linux fundamentals, including managing services and using key command line tools
TCP/IP Networking fundamentals, including familiarity with hardware and configuration, and what to expect from enterprise networks
Command line diagnostics and low level system and networking tools such as tcpdump and arp
Basic shell scripting with Bash or similar
Golang and/or Python
Managing CI/CD pipelines, ideally with Buildkite and/or Github Actions
Familiarity with AWS, in particular services such as S3, Route53, and Cloudfront
Experience with observability and monitoring tools - we use Datadog, but you may be familiar with another similar tool
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools - we use Terraform, but you may be familiar with something similar
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and enterprise customers
Demonstrated ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders to translate and build alignment
A high level of autonomy and self-reliance, able to manage multiple streams of work
Experience working effectively with stakeholders in a remote-first organisation that crosses timezones and cultures

Preferred

Have experience with system administration or network engineering roles. You may have a networking vendor certification or similar (CCNA/CCNP, AWS, etc)
Have worked with: physical hardware deployed on-prem or within data centres
technical account management teams, such as Solutions, Technical Sales, or similar teams
high-throughput or complex data applications such as video or voice
hardware projects, such as electronics or embedded systems
Have a strong interest in music!
