Postdoctoral Fellow - Tang Lab
Seattle Children's is one of the nation's top five pediatric research centers, dedicated to providing hope, care, and cures for children. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work on a bioengineering project that integrates wetlab research with AI-driven bioinformatics tool development, requiring expertise in molecular and cell biology techniques, as well as programming and machine learning skills.

Responsibilities
Working on a bioengineering project that integrates wetlab research with AI-driven bioinformatics tool development
Cooperative, proactive, self-learning and independent troubleshooting of tasks
Utilizing basic molecular and cell biology techniques including bacterial transformation, PCR, molecular cloning, gene codon optimization, DNA extraction, Sanger sequencing, gene sequence analysis, and mammalian cell culture work
Maintaining sterility techniques in a biosafety cabinet
Performing DNA transfection into mammalian cell culture using PEI/lipofectamine and conducting western blotting
Engaging in cellular fluorescence imaging and image processing using ImageJ
Mastering critical techniques such as virus production and fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS)
Applying machine learning and computer programming while interfacing with AI assistants to develop codes in Python/R
Utilizing computer skills for large language model training and evaluative processes
Qualification
Required
Doctorate degree (PhD/DVM/MD) in specialty area from an accredited university training program
Experience using basic research techniques of specialty area
Basic molecular and cell biology techniques are required, including bacterial transformation and handling, PCR, molecular cloning (restriction enzyme and Gibson assembly), gene codon optimization, DNA extraction (miniprep/midiprep/maxiprep), sanger sequencing sample submissions, gene sequence analysis, mammalian cell culture work in biosafety cabinet while maintaining sterility techniques, DNA transfection into mammalian cell culture (PEI/lipofectamine), western blot
Cellular fluorescence imaging experience and image processing (ImageJ) are central to the work
Interest in applying machine learning and computer programming while interfacing with AI assistant to develop codes (Python/R/etc) will be important part of project
Computer skills expected for success will include large language model, model training and evaluative processes
Preferred
Previous experience conducting research in the pediatric arena
Experience in protocol and manuscript development and in grant writing
Experience with high-content imaging is preferred
