Responsibilities
Operate and interpret data from electromagnetic (EM) and GPR systems to identify, locate, and map underground utilities, including but not limited to water, sewer, gas, electric, and telecom
Serve as a technical lead on GPR investigations, including selecting appropriate antenna frequencies, setting scanning parameters, and analyzing radargrams
Train and coach up-and-coming SUE Technicians in utility locating fundamentals, GPR applications, equipment care, and proper marking/documentation procedures
Maintain equipment accuracy through routine calibration, field testing, and care—especially GPR units which require environment-specific settings and adjustments
Collaborate with SUE Field Supervisors to enhance training materials, troubleshooting guides, and cross-training opportunities for multi-utility locating and advanced technology use
Keep up to date on technological advancements in subsurface utility locating and integrate new tools and methods into daily workflows and crew development
Qualification
Required
Must have high school diploma or G.E.D
Four to Six (4-6) years of related work experience
Strong attention to detail
Must be mentally and physically capable of performing all essential duties required of the position
Must have average communication skills, both verbal and written and be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
Must be able to travel frequently and extensively, overnight, and/or out of town
Must be able to work overtime as required
Good physical condition and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Must have valid driver's license and pass a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check
Must maintain satisfactory driving record, as required by our insurance company
Must successfully pass pre-employment background and drug screening
Periodic drug testing may be required per company policy
Preferred
Applicable OSHA certifications preferred
Preference to GPR experience preferred
Experience with GPR systems
Enthusiasm for training and developing others; previous mentoring experience a plus
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
Must be able to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
Good physical condition and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Must be able to frequently reach with hands and arms, bend and climb and/or balance
Ability to use tools, and equipment. For instance, Tape measure, cloth / steel tape, machete, hammer
Must be able to frequently lift and/or move 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
CPU literate: Basic computer skills, including familiarity with data transfer and basic software used in surveying
Must have vision abilities of close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
