Responsibilities
Maintain and repair high and low service pumps and related equipment, booster pumps and related equipment, and operate booster stations; test, calibrate, install, repair, and inspect monitoring devices; perform general maintenance on the equipment and design new measuring and recording equipment
General Knowledge of safe practices for the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant, booster stations, and other grounds and equipment related to water production in the general service area
Use safe working practices in the performance of duties and ensure that proper safety practices are used by all workers, including stopping all work, if necessary, to maintain a safe working environment
Identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings, or working conditions which may be unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees
Take prompt corrective measures to eliminate hazards
Maintain appropriate records, both paper and electronic
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, employees, and the public
Maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance
Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime
Perform sanitation procedures in accordance with American Water, AWWA and/or governmental requirements. Dechlorinate water used in sanitation prior to discharge to streets, streams, ditches or other areas
Repair and/or replace water equipment, including, but not limited to, mains, services, pumps, motors, and valves of varying materials in accordance with safe working procedures established for the same
Ensure the proper, safe disposal of oil and other related residuals
Ensure the proper disposal of unused or abandoned materials according to the specifications required for the same
Work alone and/or in teams
Assist in maintenance of plant, booster facilities, and equipment
Collaborate with other members of the Production Department or its representatives to ensure the optimal performance of the plant and boosters, including, but not limited to monitoring, filtering and pumping systems
Operate heavy equipment, machinery, and specialized equipment used in the operation and maintenance of the production system, including but not limited to: mini-hoes, dump trucks, forklifts and fork trucks, utility and pickup trucks, skid-steer vehicles, off-road vehicles, valve operators, and other equipment necessary for water production work
Repair and diagnose control circuit of pumping, feeding, and monitoring equipment
Maintain, repair, and calibrate electronic monitoring equipment, transmitters, and graphic recorders
Diagnose, replace and repair telemetry and SCADA equipment
Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear; rebuild equipment such as pumps and motors; align or assist in alignment for optimum efficiency; adjust belts and pulleys to proper tension; clean, calibrate, and verify monitoring adjustments; wiring of splicing or motor leads
Troubleshoot electrical failures; replace fuses
Clean treatment plant and booster stations
Maintain grounds at treatment plant and booster stations, including painting plant and booster station facilities and equipment
Collect and test water samples from the distribution and production system
Perform routine and preventive maintenance of pumps, booster pumps, chemical feeders and related equipment, electrical equipment and other equipment and piping as assigned
Utilize laptop and desktop computers, smart phones, tablets and/or other handheld devices to enter data, complete orders, compute and enter timesheets, and other duties as required and assigned
Perform other duties as required

Required

Reading and comprehending maps, diagrams, practices, regulations/policies, and environmental standards and compliance requirements
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, safety data sheets, instructions, procedures, and operations manuals
Ability to write reports and complete appropriate forms
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
Ability to understand and utilize specialized equipment including SCADA equipment and associated software
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED)
Experience required to perform the necessary function of the job
West Virginia Class E Driver's License (or equivalent) with appropriate medical certifications for equipment operation
West Virginia WD License, West Virginia 1D License, or WV Water Operator License (Class 1 or better) or ability to achieve within 1 year
Journey Electrician license required
