Head of Credit Engineering
Apollo is a high-growth, global alternative asset manager seeking a Head of Credit Engineering to lead its New York trading technology team. This role involves designing and deploying credit infrastructure systems, managing a team of developers, and ensuring the successful execution of credit trading strategies.

Responsibilities
Set technical vision and roadmap for credit analytics, underwriting, portfolio stress testing, scenario simulation, and monitoring systems
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of credit quants, data engineers, software engineers, and model validators
Oversee the development of cash flow/default/recovery models, scenario engines, and sensitivity analyses
Build and maintain data pipelines (ETL), integration with external sources (financial data, market data, third-party vendor inputs)
Architect and scale systems for post-investment monitoring: covenant tracking, early-warning alerts, breach analytics, migrations, etc
Ensure system reliability, performance, maintainability, security, and auditability
Validate/benchmark/monitor internal and external models; ensure robust governance
Collaborate with credit/underwriting teams to translate business requirements into technical specs
Provide analytics/insights for portfolio teams: stress loss attribution, exposure/concentration metrics, scenario breakdowns
Present technology & model strategies to senior leadership, investment committees, and possibly investors
Oversee cross-functional integration: legal, compliance, operations, accounting, risk
Drive innovation: evaluate and integrate machine learning / AI / alternative data / advanced analytics where appropriate
Build and maintain relationships with senior executives to develop a clear understanding of business needs; ensure delivery of the credit engineering organization to meet needs and respond with agility to changing business priorities
Work with business sponsors, develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for credit engineering spending and initiatives. Coordinate and facilitate consultation with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for technology implementations
Attract, retain, and develop top talent. Build pipeline of talent within enterprise solutions technology including own succession options. Upskill the team on critical capabilities
Accelerate the development of high potential individuals by providing timely constructive feedback and mentorship
Encourage collaboration and engagement while continually upskilling the investment engineering organization
Ensure the culture is highly collaborative, inclusive, and accountable
Qualification
Required
Strong technical prowess and the ability to flex between strategic and hands-on and be in the details with regards to technical acumen and depth
An 'offense minded' leader; not focused purely on utility delivery and strong ability to balance playing offence with playing 'defense.' A forward-thinking change agent with a track record of leveraging emerging technology to improve workflow and drive the business forward
Experience managing a function with multiple interdependencies within a complex global organization
A high level of market sophistication and broad knowledge in private and public markets investing
Bachelor's degree required in relevant field (engineering, computer science, etc.)
15+ years of experience (or equivalent senior technical leadership) in credit modeling, credit risk, structured finance, or quantitative engineering
Strong programming skills (Python, SQL, and at least one compiled language or well-engineered stack)
Experience in data engineering, large-scale systems, distributed computing, pipeline design, APIs
Deep domain knowledge of credit, default/recovery modeling, scenario analysis, cash flow modeling, term structure, structural modeling
Excellent communication skills; ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical senior stakeholders
Strong project management and delivery skills in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
Lead a team of full-stack developers, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure the successful delivery of software to the desk
Usher software builds through requirements gathering, design, hands-on development, testing, and production deployment
Strong hands-on software experience in developing and a proven track record of delivering full-stack cloud-based applications
Demonstrated ability to build and deploy microservices in a scalable high throughput workflow
Experience with messaging systems across applications stack (e.g., Kafka)
Experience with both server-side development (e.g., Python, Node.js) and JavaScript/TypeScript front-end development (e.g., Angular, React, Vue)
Comfortable working in an agile software delivery environment with Git and with exposure to CI/CD tools (e.g., Docker, Jenkins, GitLab)
Passion for clean, maintainable code and always looking to improve engineering skills in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
Lead by example, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment, promoting knowledge sharing and encouraging professional growth and development
Preferred
Master's degree preferred
Experience in structured finance (e.g., ABS, CLO, SBLC, securitization) or alternative credit is a strong plus
Familiarity with governance, validation, regulatory requirements related to credit modeling is desirable
