Assistant/Associate Professor in Contemporary Art History (Chair of Excellence in Art History)

The University of Memphis is seeking a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Art History to help shape and launch a proposed PhD program in Art History and Visual Studies. The ideal candidate will focus on contemporary art and material culture studies while demonstrating a commitment to scholarly research and publishing in the field.

Responsibilities

Teach a 3/2 course load, including art history surveys as well as undergraduate and graduate courses in Modern and Contemporary Art
Curriculum development, including the development of new courses within the candidate’s area of specialization
Academic advising
Develop and sustain a record of scholarly research and publications
Engage in service to the department, college, and university

PhD in Art History or related field (degree in hand by Spring 2026)
