Legal.io is collaborating with a leading tech company to hire a Product Counsel for a 6-month contract with a strong potential for extension. The role focuses on leading complex legal projects related to privacy-sensitive product launches and requires collaboration with various teams to ensure compliance and safety in product development.

Responsibilities

Conduct, lead and own all legal risk review for privacy and EU data protection risks

Conduct legal assessment for product integrity launches

Provide strategic and tactical legal advice to our business team to support integrity and product teams and cross-org initiatives

Comfortable drafting updates to various terms of service and policies, external content

Serve as content/safety/integrity legal subject matter expert related to content moderation and online safety issues such as scam, spam, fraud, regulated business verticals (gambling, drugs, alcohol), child safety, exploitation, bullying/harassment, violation/enforcement of policies

Provide legal analysis and guidance across many subject areas including global content regulations, intermediary liability, consumer protection laws, terms of service/policies, and other global legal frameworks including privacy and youth

Coordinate with legal, product management, policy, communications, engineering, product marketing, operations, customer support, and other cross-functional teams on content, integrity, and safety matters, for product development/launches, regulatory readiness and compliance, and external communications

Support Legal and Policy teams’ engagement with regulators and legislators on content, integrity, and safety issues

Support legal and cross-functional analysis and alignment, driving coordination and harmonization of legal guidance to internal client teams

Qualification

Required

J.D. degree and membership in at least one U.S. state bar

5+ years combined law firm and in-house experience, including experience working with technology companies

Experience working independently and cross-functionally

Experience working on multiple projects at once in a fast-paced environment

Proven problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills

Preferred

7+ years experience as a licensed attorney in private, govt, or in-house practice

Experience providing product counseling for technology products/industry

Prior in-house experience at a technology company

Experience counseling clients relating to content regulation/moderation, online safety, regulatory, security, privacy and data protection, consumer protection, and/or youth/child regulations

Experience building scalable legal functions and processes, e.g. frameworks, playbooks, product guidance

Experience working independently and cross-functionally

Experience working on multiple projects at once in fast-paced environment

Proven problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
