Responsibilities

Assist with railcar inspections
Assist in car part inspections and identification
Must complete 3G welding qualification test for ARC welding
Identify areas of railcar requiring repair or maintenance and perform necessary work required
Ability to use welding equipment on a variety of metals and alloys and operate torches in all positions without damage to adjoining parts
Ability to inspect and perform railcar repairs including air brake pipes, valves, gaskets, air hoses and other equipment as required
Have successfully passed in-house Mechanical inspection part identification testing
Ability to successfully handle inbound inspection write-ups without supervision
Must be Air Test Certified
Must be Welder and Cutting Certified: 2G, 3G and 4G Tests
Ability to ensure all federal requirements and company guidelines are met and that all safety rules are followed while performing job duties
Ability to read and understand blueprints
Proficient in AAR Rules and Write-ups
Proficient in AAR Pricing and Billing
Proficient in RailLink Systems
Additional duties as assigned

Required

Must complete 3G welding qualification test for ARC welding

Must be able to maintain accurate car repair records and reports
Must be able to climb and balance on ladders and/or cars
Must be able to withstand exposure to loud noise, moving machinery parts, airborne particles, and fumes from gas, oil, and grease
Must have a valid driver's license
High School diploma or GED
Understand oral and written communications, both general and technical
Provide clear instructions/directions
Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Has the technical and functional background to perform job duties at a high level of competence
Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
Wear protective equipment including hearing protection, safety steel-toe boots, or safety glasses
Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, including on-call 7 days a week, 24 hours per day, with extended periods of time away from home and short rest between assignments in accordance with the hours of service regulation
Medium to heavy work, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 80 pounds
Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/crawl/balance/climb
Work in cramped, confined, enclosed, or awkward places
Ride on the outside of rail equipment for long periods of time
Walk long distances over uneven terrain
Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection
Must meet color vision requirements as described in the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Regulations
Work outside in all weather conditions
