University of Michigan Health-Sparrow is seeking a Radiology Technician to perform general radiology exams and CT scans. The role involves preparing patients, obtaining images, assisting radiologists, and maintaining patient records and equipment.

Responsibilities
Prepares patients for radiology examinations/CT scans by explaining procedure to be performed, administering contrast materials, and positioning patients so that targeted parts of the body can be properly radiographed
Performs general radiology exams and CT scans on emergency room patients, inpatients, and outpatients in accordance with physicians’ orders
Utilizes digital imaging to obtain images in a timely manner for the radiologist
Assists radiologist with specialized procedures as directed
Prepares and maintains patient records and files. Maintains required records for billing purposes
Performs a variety of clerical tasks including answering phones, scheduling/canceling patient exams, assisting patients at the main window, and inputting patient information into the Meditech computer system
Provides training and guidance to radiology students
Maintains radiology equipment and examination rooms; performs quality control tests to assure all equipment is functioning properly and initiates corrective action as necessary
Maintains an adequate inventory of radiographic supplies; orders supplies as needed
Transports patient to/from various departments within the Hospital as needed
Attends staff meetings and in-service programs
Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives. Adheres to the organization’s policies & procedures, and compliance guidelines
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) radiology certification or completed within 6 months of hire
Minimum of one year of related hospital radiology experience
Completion of an accredited Radiology Technology program
Knowledge and understanding of a wide range of radiographic exam procedures and techniques
Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and hospital policies related to the radiology function including HIPAA confidentiality and JCAHO mandates
Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation
Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and other Hospital staff in the exchange of information
Analytical ability to assess patients' condition and determine appropriate radiographic techniques to be utilized
Mental ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities and demands, deal with the emotional needs/concerns of patients who may be combative at times, complete multiple radiographic exams in a timely manner, work on tasks requiring accuracy and attention to detail, and appropriately respond to emergency/trauma situations
Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, transfer/lift/position patients, and properly operate radiology equipment/devices
Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job
