They are seeking a part-time Molecular Technologist to perform and oversee clinical molecular assays and tests, ensuring quality assurance and maintaining laboratory standards under the supervision of the Laboratory Director.

Responsibilities

Maintain proper documentation of all laboratory vitals, inventory, and laboratory results

Coordinate/Create Purchasing Orders for essential laboratory supplies and reagents

Perform accessioning, data entry and data verification of incoming specimens into the LIS system. Review required documentation for completeness assure identification, labeling and specification

Monitor and perform routine clinical molecular assays (manual or automated) throughout the entire samples’ life cycle, including validation and research samples

Clean and maintain laboratory areas and instruments according to the manufacturers’ recommendations, department procedures, and current good laboratory practices

Monitor, troubleshooting, properly document and report instrument failures according to current good laboratory and document practices

Properly seal, archive, and/or dispose of samples

Coordinate with team members to receive and put away reagent and consumable deliveries as per the manufacturers’ recommendations

Maintains molecular laboratory equipment performance by performing routine maintenance procedures and certifying instrument performance. Aids in equipment troubleshooting and coordinating with technical support

Understand and follow specimen/reagent labeling and handling procedures during preparation for extraction procedures

Perform weekly inventory to maintain a minimum level of supplies and reagents

Records quality -affecting activities in the appropriate quality control document(s)

Maintains quality molecular results through Quality Assurance practices

Ensures effective communication between laboratory staff and laboratory management to maintain efficient processes in the laboratory

Manages staff schedules, providing additional coverage on evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed

Required

B.Sc degree or higher in Biological or Chemical Sciences with two (2) years of experience in a research or clinical laboratory

M.Sc./Ph.D. degree(s) in the Biological or Chemical Sciences with a minimum of six (6) months of experience in molecular biology

Experience in a clinical or research molecular laboratory setting or experience with some genetics or molecular biology benchwork techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, Quality Control, Library Preparation; Quantitative Real-time PCR; and additional methods surrounding Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)

Ability to troubleshoot LIS, instrument, and assay errors

Knowledge of HIPAA and laboratory SOPs, regulatory and safety procedures

Knowledge of specific regulatory standards and accreditation organization standards for regulatory bodies i.e., CAP, CLEP, and CLIA

Attention to detail and accuracy

Proficient in using computers (i.e., internet, email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases) for record-keeping functions and sample life cycle management

Ability to communicate appropriately, both orally and written

Ability to collaborate effectively with interdepartmental teams

Ability to recognize and resolve hazardous conditions

Ability to solve problems and troubleshoot
