Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice, Internal Medicine-Nephrology

UTMB Health is seeking a full-time physician at the rank of Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice within the Division of Nephrology. This role involves providing interventional nephrology services, teaching medical trainees, and contributing to academic and quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

Provide interventional nephrology services, including but not limited to:
Dialysis access evaluation, placement, and maintenance (fistulograms, thrombectomies, catheter placements/removals)
Central venous access procedures and ultrasound-guided interventions
Kidney-related diagnostic procedures and vascular access management
Deliver inpatient and/or outpatient nephrology care, including consultation and follow-up for patients with acute and chronic kidney disease
Support interventional nephrology services at the Estelle Unit near Huntsville and UTMB hospitals in Galveston and League City
Participate in the expansion of UTMB’s interventional nephrology footprint, including coordination with community nephrologists and dialysis units
Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows in both clinical and procedural settings
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives related to interventional nephrology
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including vascular surgery, radiology, and dialysis units—to optimize patient outcomes
Contribute to the growth of the dialysis population and support continuity of care across UTMB facilities

Qualification

Interventional NephrologyBoard certified in NephrologyMDDO degreeInterpersonal skillsCommunication skills

Required

MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
Board certified or board eligible in Nephrology
Formal training or significant experience in Interventional Nephrology
Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas

Preferred

Experience performing a broad range of interventional nephrology procedures in an academic or hospital-based setting
Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activity, quality improvement, or procedural education
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach
