Ultrasound Tech I Part Time
Advocate Health is the third-largest nonprofit, integrated health system in the United States, providing care across various states. They are seeking a part-time Ultrasound Tech I to perform patient scans, assist physicians, and ensure compliance with safety standards while delivering quality patient care.

Responsibilities
Positioning of patients and proper selection of technical factors and equipment to obtain scans of optimal quality, making use of any necessary immobilization techniques
Ability to position, transfer and immobilize patients for procedures to ensure optimal quality exams are obtained
Ability to operate portable ultrasound equipment when required to perform portable procedures as requested throughout the hospital
Ability to assist physicians with various recommendations for obtaining optimal studies by suggesting selections for technical factors for procedures
Delivery of patient care and in accordance with department standards of continued quality improvement
Maintains a timely flow of patients in room assignments or work areas
Treat all patients and customers with respect and compassion
Transports patient when indicated to meet customer needs
Prepares Ultrasound room by making sure all needed supplies and equipment are available
Utilize appropriate phone etiquette
Provide an environment conducive to privacy for all patients
Maintain patient confidentiality according to the hospital policies
Follows in-and-out patient identification policy
Documentation for department records (i.e.: inventories of supplies and patient statistics) to ensure adequate supplies and proper patient records
Maintains correct patient records as required. Assembles daily patient schedules and prepares patient folders to enable the department to properly preserve patient’s records
Prepares ultrasound rooms ensuring that necessary equipment and supplies are available before performing procedures
Knows and operates Hospital Information Computer Systems as required
Responsible for securing pertinent history from the patient for each procedure, in order to provide the radiologist with adequate information before film interpretation
Obtains patient history to ensure that the radiologist will have pertinent information explaining why the diagnostic test is being performed
Works closely with the radiologist when requested to ensure an optimal outcome for each procedure performed
Maintains positive guest relations when dealing with patients, fellow employees or any personnel encountered during daily activities
Compliance with established Accrediting Organization and hospital safety standards to ensure patient and staff well being at all times
Maintains annual CPR certification to further ensure safety of patients in department
Ability to operate all equipment in a safe manner in accordance with hospital and department’s policies and procedures on safety
Uses standard Precautions/protects self from bodily fluid exposure
Maintain hospital dept. disaster, fire, and evacuation policy
Promotes patient safety by reporting issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives
Attends mandatory in-services / meetings
Responsible for keeping abreast of current ultrasound skills and new developments in the field of ultrasound
Instruction and assistance as required by students or fellow technologists orientating in ultrasound
Qualification
Required
ARDMS Registry eligible. ARDMS Registry to be successfully completed within first year of employment
Possess high degree of technical knowledge to perform more specialized U/S studies with minimal amount of assistance from Radiologist
Able to make diagnostic judgments when scanning and present them to the Radiologist for their interpretation
CPR Certification
Ability to adjust to flexible hours at minimal notice as required
Ability to work odd hours (late hours on-call)
Ability to respond to emergency call back in minimal time
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to constantly view small CRT screens during exam
Ability to perform lifting activities related to patients
Ability to operate portable equipment
Ability to deal with extremely ill patients
Ability to communicate with patients
Ability to adjust to flexible work hours
Ability to work weekends, holidays, and emergency call-back
Ability to participate on-call program and available to department needs with minimal notice
Ability to do light, medium or heavy lifting
Ability to make independent professional decisions using good judgment skills
Ability to practice high quality patient care and technical competence
Ability to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities
Ability to demonstrate oral and written communication skills
May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, such as film processing chemicals
Ability to attend out-of-town site visits to view equipment
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance for direct patient care or direct patient contact
Preferred
Prior experience with various age groups is preferred
