Principal Systems Engineer III (Storage & Backup)

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and provide ongoing support for the Storage & Backup Infrastructure
Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all Storage & Backup environments
Create and maintain storage infrastructure for: Bare-metal and virtual machines, SAN, network, or local storage configurations, OEM and third-party tools, including virtual storage tools/services
Provision and configure required storage & backup for servers
Evaluate, improve, and maintain information security across the storage & backup infrastructure
Monitor and resolve storage issues; create recovery processes for: Hardware failures, Performance bottlenecks, Configure alerts for proactive response
Install, configure, test, and maintain: System management tools, SAN and Tape infrastructure, Server plugins with latest hardware/software patches and firmware
Proactively ensure high availability of systems and infrastructure, including: Data replication verification, Failover copies, Redundant data sets
Monitor and test application performance for bottlenecks; collaborate with developers to implement fixes
Maintain strategies for security, backup, and redundancy
Write and maintain custom scripts to: Increase system efficiency, Automate tasks (e.g., provisioning storage with IaaS)
Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
Provide 4th level support
Liaise with vendors and IT personnel for problem resolution
Ensure up-to-date technical documentation for all systems, including: Inventory and patch levels, Hostnames, property numbers, IPs, enclave, cores, processors, Admin passwords, certificates, service accounts (monthly updates)
Integrate systems with Windows and Linux for core service dependencies
Engineer and implement multi-factor authentication solutions
Document system configurations including: Passwords, access controls, version/revision numbers, Patch levels, inventory, hostnames, IPs, processors, cores, memory, license keys
Transition knowledge to Government staff via training and assistance using industry best practices
Provide real-time reporting of: Provisioned and utilized storage resources, Performance metrics for tape/disk space consumption, Storage availability, performance, and trends

Required

Active Top Secret clearance
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
Minimum of ten years' experience with NetBackup and IBM Spectrum Protect Suite experience
Advanced mainstream storage vendor certification
Proven experience in designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise-level storage and backup systems
Strong knowledge of Storage Area Network (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), Tape systems, local disk, Fibre Channel, and iSCSI technologies
Experience with both bare-metal and virtual machine storage provisioning and configuration
Proficiency in system management tools, server plugins, and patch/firmware management
Expertise in scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) for infrastructure tasks
Familiarity with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and virtual storage tools
Solid understanding of Windows and Linux system integration and dependencies
Experience implementing and supporting multi-factor authentication solutions
