Senior Nuclear Criticality Engineer
Boston Government Services, LLC. (BGS) is an engineering, technology, and security firm helping to advance missions of national importance. They are seeking a Senior Nuclear Criticality Engineer to provide technical capabilities in Nuclear Criticality Safety and ensure the safe handling of fissile materials.
Responsibilities
Provide technical capabilities in Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) to ensure fissile materials are processed, stored, transferred, and handled safely so that personnel and property are protected against a nuclear criticality accident
Perform analysis of equipment, processes, and procedures prescribing correct methods, control requirements, and limitations
Conduct surveillances, inspections, walkthroughs, appraisals, or audits of fissile material operations to ensure compliance with approvals
Provide operating areas with specific NCS professional interpretations and advice. Perform training to employees in basic NCS
Validate, maintain, and operate nuclear computer codes and nuclear cross-sections
Development, revision, and review of Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) documentation such as Criticality Safety Evaluations (CSEs), Nuclear Criticality Safety Determinations (NCSDs), Technical Deviations (TDs), and various other NCS technical basis documentation
Completion of required NCS annual Operational Reviews as needed
Provide daily nuclear facility support as needed consisting of facility walkdowns, review of NCS requirements implementing documents, participation at facility Operational Safety Boards, etc
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field plus 5-10 years of direct experience required, or an MS with 3-7 years' experience
Proficiency with criticality safety codes and software tools, such as MCNP (Monte Carlo N-Particle), SCALE, KENO, or similar computational tools used for radiation transport and criticality safety analysis
Experience in the application of DOE rules, guides, orders, standards, and handbooks including 10CFR 830, Nuclear Safety Management, is required
Hands-on experience with criticality safety assessments, including designing, evaluating, and reviewing systems and processes to ensure they meet safety standards
Experience in performing safety evaluations and risk assessments related to nuclear processes, such as fuel fabrication, enrichment, transportation, and storage
Successful drug screening
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge
Preferred
18 years of direct experience, or an MS with 15 years' experience
Master's degree or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering or a related discipline, especially with a focus in reactor physics, neutron transport, or criticality safety
Familiarity with nuclear fuel cycle operations, such as enrichment, reprocessing, or fuel fabrication
Experience in Approach to Critical (e.g., NCSP Hands-On Criticality Safety Course) preferred
An active Department of Energy Q Clearance
A Professional Engineer (PE) License
