Underwriter - Accepting Resumes for Future Hires
LoanPeople is a mortgage company headquartered in Austin, TX, seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter to review and decision various loan types. The role involves ensuring compliance with guidelines while working closely with loan officers to support efficient underwriting decisions.

Responsibilities
Underwrite a minimum of three new loan submissions per day, plus resubmissions, meeting internal quality and compliance standards
Analyze and calculate income (including self-employment income) per agency/investor guidelines
Underwrite Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loans
Review and decision loans based on credit, income, asset, and collateral analysis
Recommend alternative loan structuring options for challenging scenarios
Evaluate appraisals and collateral using tools such as Collateral Underwriter and Loan Collateral Advisor
Respond to investor and auditor inquiries or conditions in a timely manner
Ensure accurate and complete data input into LOS and AUS (1008, LT, LA, AUS, funding conditions)
Stay informed on investor, agency, and internal underwriting updates and guidelines
Communicate underwriting decisions clearly to processing and sales teams
Contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment
Qualification
Required
5+ years of mortgage underwriting experience with FNMA, FHLMC, and investor guidelines
Proficient with AUS and manual underwriting (DU, LP, GUS)
Direct experience underwriting Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA. Experience underwriting non-conforming/jumbo loans a plus
Comprehensive knowledge of Non-QM and Jumbo loan products, including guidelines, structuring, and eligibility requirements
CHUMS ID (active for the past 3 years; held for at least 5 years)
SAR designation (active for the past 3 years; held for at least 5 years)
Sign-off authority up to conforming loan limits for 1-unit properties
Comfortable working with investor-specific guidelines (e.g., Amerihome, Chase, Wells Fargo, PennyMac)
Familiar with AllRegs, Microsoft Office, Loan Origination Systems
Strong knowledge of: Agency loan guidelines (FHA, VA, USDA, Conventional), Credit and income analysis, including self-employed borrower income, Texas-specific loan types, including Texas A6 and A4 F(2) refinances, Real estate collateral valuation and risk assessment
Exceptional attention to detail and time management
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work independently and manage multiple files under deadline
