MOTOR VEHICLE TECH III

Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council is seeking a Motor Vehicle Tech III to perform complex motor vehicle maintenance and repair work. The role involves diagnosing and repairing defective components, performing preventive maintenance, and may include training others in the team.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Performs complex (journey-level) motor vehicle maintenance and repair work
Work involves repairing or replacing worn or broken parts; performing preventive maintenance activities; and servicing motor vehicle equipment and related gasoline, diesel, or alternative fuel engine-powered equipment
May train others
Works under close supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment
Performs maintenance, diagnosis, repair, or replacement of defective components on motor vehicles
Performs safety and emissions inspections
Exchange, rebuilds, and overhauls motors, transmissions, differentials, and other motor vehicle components and systems
Distributes motor vehicle supplies
Inventories parts and equipment
Maintains records on the operation and repair of motor vehicles and other equipment
May assist in the development of training programs
May maintain and repair heavy construction equipment
Performs other such related duties as may be assigned

Required

Experience in motor vehicle maintenance and repair work
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent, supplemented by technical courses in motor vehicle maintenance and repair
Knowledge of motor vehicle maintenance and repair techniques
Knowledge of safety practices and principles of departmental policies and record-keeping procedures
Knowledge of electrical and computerized systems and emission control systems
Ability to follow instructions
Ability to locate and diagnose defective mechanical operations
Ability to maintain records
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to train others
Requires two certifications from the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence
Requires a valid Texas Commercial driver's license

Preferred

Experience and education may be substituted for one another
The ability to communicate in English and Spanish is preferred
May require a Texas Motor Vehicle Safety Inspector license
May require Texas Certified Tow Operator
