Responsibilities

Support LANL's mission by serving as the subject matter expert (SME) for nuclear facility electrical, mechanical, and structural engineering matters
Including all aspects of electrical safety, HVAC, power quality, fluid/utility systems, power monitoring, critical power reliability/redundancy issues, renovating rooms, modifying buildings and structural members, and developing new structures within and around the plutonium facility
Perform engineering studies including short circuit, device coordination, equipment sizing, exterior lighting, fault current, arc flash for both medium and low voltage equipment, demolition, installation, upgrades, and repairs
Become familiar with pressure safety, leak testing requirements, piping supports, flow requirements, installing equipment on housekeeping pads or skids with the use of post-installed anchors, design cranes and crane girders/support structures, canopies, equipment support stands, piping/conduit supports, wall/floor/ceiling penetrations, and concrete slabs
Work alongside junior and senior engineers (e.g., fire protection, structural, mechanical, and electrical) and other peers in team settings to complete collaborative full-system design solutions through mentoring and leadership

Required

Awareness of nuclear facility engineering in one or more of the following, nuclear criticality safety analysis, safety basis, system engineer, project engineer, or design engineer
Awareness of nuclear facility engineering work planning and control methods
Awareness of engineering work, planning, construction, control methods, and project/process engineering/management practices
Awareness of industry, regulatory, or national codes and standards, engineering principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices
Knowledge of nuclear facility engineering in one or more of the following, nuclear criticality safety analysis, safety basis, system engineer, project engineer, or design engineer
Knowledge of nuclear facility engineering work planning and control methods
Knowledge of engineering work, planning, construction, control methods, and project/process engineering/management practices
Knowledge of and experience applying industry, regulatory, or national codes and standards including IBC, NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, IMC, IEBC, ASME, AISC 360, ACI 318, ASCE 7, engineering principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and 2 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 3 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above

Preferred

Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired
Awareness of engineering maintenance techniques and construction methodologies
Awareness of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards, and guides
Familiarity with LANL engineering processes and procedures
Current registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and/or Professional Engineering certification
