Engineer I, II, III, or IV - Electric Line

Responsibilities
Performs general engineering functions in the design and operation of electric distribution and transmission facilities
Designs of line extensions to provide electric service to new large-scale commercial and industrial customers, with assistance as required
Redesigns existing electrical facilities for residential, commercial, and industrial customers due to load or system changes, building additions, or other construction activities, with assistance as required
Performs engineering design of reinforcement projects, whiteway lighting projects, and preventative maintenance and system power factor improvement projects, with assistance as required
Performs engineering design and layout of electric facility adjustments as required for highway improvement projects, sewer projects, and other municipal improvement projects, with assistance as required
May obtain construction permits from appropriate agencies
Reviews, updates, and prepares electric construction standards with assistance as required. Prepares job drawings, material lists, cost estimates, and construction labor estimates
Analyzes various new materials and processes and works with vendors and equipment suppliers, with assistance as required. Stays current on electric transmission and distribution technology including electric distribution automation software and systems. Determines control settings for electric distribution equipment (reclosers, regulators, capacitors, fault indicators, etc.)
Reviews electric plans for City and County projects to ensure compliance with Electric Service Standards, including compliance with the National Electrical Safety Code
May assist with preparing contracts for bidding purposes as required to secure contractors to perform work on electrical system such as line construction, maintenance, and emergency rebuilds
Assists in Outage Center or in field supervision for emergency work as required. This work may be during or after normal working hours
Performs other related duties as assigned by management
Qualification
Required
An electrical engineering degree from a school with a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology is required
Electrical engineering design experience is preferred but not required for this entry level position
In lieu of an electrical engineering degree, consideration may be given to individuals with an engineering degree in another discipline and applicable design experience who have an interest in acquiring training and experience necessary to perform overhead electric transmission/distribution design
A minimum of three years of electric transmission and/or distribution design experience, OR four years of recent progressively responsible applicable engineering design experience is required
In lieu of an electrical engineering degree, consideration may be given to individuals with an engineering degree in another discipline with Missouri Professional Engineering (PE) certification, and a minimum of five years of recent progressively responsible design experience and an interest in acquiring the training and experience necessary to perform increasingly complex Electric Line design tasks are required
A minimum of five years of recent progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design experience, OR a minimum of seven years of other applicable and progressively responsible design experience is required
In lieu of an electrical engineering degree, consideration may be given to individuals with an engineering degree in another discipline with Missouri Professional Engineering (PE) certification, a minimum of seven years of recent applicable and progressively responsible design experience, and an interest in acquiring training and experience in electric transmission/distribution design is required
A minimum of eight years of recent applicable and progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design OR a minimum of three years of recent progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design and a minimum of seven years of other recent applicable and progressively responsible design experience is required
A valid driver's license (minimum Class F) is required
A valid certificate in Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) is required
A valid Missouri PE Registration Certificate is required; Individuals who have a PE license from another state may be hired at the Engineer III level but will be required to obtain Missouri Professional Engineer (PE) registration within twelve months to remain in that classification
A valid Missouri PE Registration Certificate is required. Individuals who hold a PE license from another state may be hired at the Engineer IV level but will be required to obtain Missouri Professional Engineer (PE) registration within twelve months to remain in that classification
General knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts and practices
Ability to perform limited portions of broader work assignments under the direction of an experienced engineer
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate technical work
Ability to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work courteously with customers, co-workers, and individuals in other departments
Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines
Ability to interface with outside agencies at all levels
Ability to teach and mentor interns
Ability to effectively utilize a range of digital tools and platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise software, artificial intelligence-enhanced applications, and self-service systems
Must possess a willingness and capacity to learn and adapt to emerging technologies, including mobile devices, cloud-based systems, and data-driven platforms relevant to utility operations
Experience with or the ability to obtain AutoCAD
Maintain adherence to all company policies
Employee must remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times and maintain the ability to respond to changing circumstances in a timely manner
Must be able to work successfully with diverse groups of people
Preferred
A valid certificate in Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) is preferred
