Mechanical Diagnostics Technician (Engineered Systems Technician 2/3)
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. They are seeking a highly self-motivated Engineered Systems Technician to support the Mechanical Diagnostics Team, responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing complex electro-mechanical diagnostic devices used in accelerator operations.

Responsibilities
Troubleshoot, maintain, repair and rebuild the mechanical and electrical systems of the devices to support accelerator operations and a variety of other accelerator related projects
Assemble mechanical parts looking at the mechanical and electrical interactions and drawings
Wire the necessary cables and wires
Solder the electrical equipment
Machine parts needed
Rebuild the devices
Adjust the tolerances on the machine shop made parts
Mount the stripper micron level, extremely delicate fibers
Communicate effectively with scientists, engineers and technicians within and outside the group
Perform leak checks on the rebuilt devices for other teams within the group
Qualification
Required
Experience working on any mechanical and electrical systems
Experience using mechanical tools and precision measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, etc
Experience with soldering techniques and operations
Experience with electrical wiring
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings
Be capable of mounting the micron thick fibers and foils onto a frame which requires extremely steady hands, good vision and attention to details
Be capable and willing to work in radiation areas while adhering to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles
Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with scientists, engineers, and technicians
Ability to obtain a Q clearance which often requires U.S. citizenship
Experience in electro/mechanical assembly, mechanical fabrication, and maintenance of mechanical and electronic equipment
Demonstrated experience using electrical test equipment such as multi-meters, and AC/DC power supplies
Applied knowledge of principles of vacuum technology
Experience with the standard machining operation such as turning, milling, drilling and grinding and hand tools
Position requires a high school diploma and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Position require an Associates' Degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Preferred
Experience working with intricate and detailed mechanical, pneumatic and electronic assemblies
Experience in the fabrication of mechanical parts working from sketches, formal drawings, or oral instructions
Design, fabrication and/or maintenance of accelerator equipment
Experience using optical tooling such as alignment telescopes
Certified IPC Specialist (IPC J-STD-001) for soldered electrical and electronic assemblies
Knowledge and experience working on an accelerator facility or on similar technology
