INSTITUTION FARM ACTIVITY LEADER - HAWAII YOUTH CORRECTIONAL FACILITY - KAILUA, OAHU (OHHI)

The State of Hawaiʻi is seeking an Institution Farm Activity Leader for the Department of Human Services, Office of Youth Services. This role involves supervising and participating in various farming activities including planting, cultivating, and caring for livestock, while overseeing the work of inmates or employees in a correctional facility setting.

Responsibilities

Planting, cultivating, and harvesting vegetables, fruits, and forage
Dusting, application of fertilizers and insecticides
Activities relating to the feeding, breeding, and care of livestock and poultry
Maintains the pasture grounds, aquaculture facilities, fruit and vegetable crop (hydroponic and agricultural farming)
In addition to performing a variety of semi-skilled farming tasks, supervise the work of a group of inmates, patients, wards, or paid farm employees on a continuous basis and perform other related duties as assigned

Required

Legal Authorization To Work
THREE (3) YEARS of experience in general farm work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training
As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution
Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse
Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above
Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment
