Responsibilities

Assists in modelling of Asbestos, Pollution, and Health Hazard (APH) accounts for reserving and commutation purposes
Supports commutation pricing and settlement activities with analysis and modelling of underlying exposures by applying appropriate actuarial methodologies and reasonable assumptions
Understands underlying reinsurance and insurance contracts and key business drivers
Supports measurement of actual v. expected and the calculation of loss reserves for reserve segments as assigned
Assists with manipulation, organization, and reconciliation of large databases
Contributes to reporting the results of actuarial valuations and analyses to the relevant stakeholders and committees
Assists with the maintenance of SOX controls related to reserve segments, as necessary. Works within guidelines and policies
Provides support with the work of external actuaries as required
Works with APH team on other projects undertaken by the actuarial team
Contributes to the development of Actuarial Management Information (MI)
Responsible for ensuring that the future data tools provide the same data appropriateness, completeness, and accuracy
Demonstrates openness to new situations. Contributes with ideas and innovative approaches to enhance work processes and procedures
Solves problems in straightforward situations; analyses possible solutions using technical experience and judgement and precedents
In addition to the above key responsibilities, may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as the Company may reasonably require

Required

1-3 years of experience working as an actuarial analyst preferred
Strong analytical skills and detail oriented
Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities and assignments
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Ability to present and communicate financial data concisely
Experience dealing with large amount of data using Access, Power BI, VBA, R or Python
Strong computer skills with particular emphasis on Microsoft Excel and Access, Power BI, VBA, R or Python
Comprehensive understanding of insurance & finance terminology
Introduction to predictive modelling techniques
Highly motivated individual who can work long hours when needed
Ability to meet strict deadlines
Flexibility to adapt
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex information to others in a straightforward manner
Problem solving skills with the ability to start an analysis at a granular level and develop the big picture
Proactive in developing and maintaining positive working relationships with cross-functional team members

Preferred

Experience on asbestos & environmental and workers' compensation as well as other long tail claims preferred
High proficiency in SQL and other databases preferred
