Mechanisms Engineer, Entry Level - Lunar Terrain Vehicle

Intuitive Machines is an innovative and cutting-edge space company making cislunar space accessible to both public and private customers. The Mechanisms Engineer will work in a cross-functional team on the design, development, manufacture and test of space flight and ground support mechanisms. This role involves assisting in the concept development, design, build and test of various articulation and deployment mechanisms associated with Intuitive Machines’ vehicles and landers.

Responsibilities

Under the mentorship of a senior engineer:
Assist in the design and development of mechanisms associated with IM’s LTV
Assist in the design and development of mechanical ground support equipment, test equipment, and tooling
Perform mechanism analyses including bearing and gear calculations, force and torque margins, lubricant life analysis, rigid and flexible body dynamic simulations
Generate CAD and drawings of mechanical hardware; perform optimization studies, interference checks, tolerance analysis
Assist in the design and implementation of integrated subsystem performance tests
Assist in environmental testing to include test plans, test execution, and test results evaluation
Set up and use test data collection devices including sensors and data acquisition systems
Generate work orders and test procedures
Devise ways to automate and otherwise improve test procedures for efficiency and repeatability

Required

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
Familiarity with CAD (Creo preferred) and GD&T practices
Exposure to mechanisms, robotics, or CNC/automation projects (academic, internship, or industry)
Hands-on experience with machine shop tools or prototyping strongly preferred

Preferred

Internship or co-op experience in aerospace, robotics, or advanced manufacturing
Familiarity with Stepper/BLDC actuators, feedback sensors, or control systems
Exposure to aerospace materials, bearing installations, geartrains, and sealing systems
Experience with additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping methods
