Sr. Property & Casualty Underwriter - GPE
Glatfelter Insurance Group is a leading managing general agency with over 70 years of experience in providing comprehensive insurance solutions. They are seeking a Senior Property & Casualty Underwriter to independently qualify and price new and renewal business, while also servicing accounts according to established standards.

Responsibilities
Completes underwriting qualification and pricing of new business and renewal submissions, using discretion and independent judgment to accept, reject or modify submission proposal
Requests additional information when needed to qualify submission and communicates acceptance or declination to producer
The Senior Underwriter is responsible for producers and/or account relationship building and is the primary point of contact for producers in his/or her assigned region
Analyzes and reviews underwriting information including applications, MVR's, loss notifications, loss runs, inspections, financial reports, websites, supplemental applications, budgets, and audits
Participates in large account reviews, and prepares underwriting approach to large renewals and new business
Handles all business in a proficient, timely manner, and fully adheres to underwriting authority as delegated by GUS management
Demonstrates superior working knowledge of program forms and endorsements, including various manuscript forms required on more complex accounts and program rating methodology
Follows and meets Glatfelter Underwriting service standards
Assists management in the development of new/existing products and programs
Responsible for accuracy of final policy product and complies with all quality control and state filing requirements
Acts as leader in the development and success of GUS team
Assists in staff training and as a mentor to less experienced team members
Seeks to enhance skills, knowledge and work abilities of other employees
Depending on GUS program, manages and evaluates the performance of Underwriting Assistants on assigned team and conducts semi-annual and annual performance reviews
Provides instructions to Underwriting Assistants to rate risk according to company guidelines and current market conditions
Requests any additional underwriting information required including risk control surveys, insurance to value, driver information and compliance with outstanding recommendations
Monitors risk control and claims activities
Reviews and takes appropriate action on any transactions which exceed the written underwriting authority of the Underwriting Assistants
Refers and suggests action on any unusual exposures to Program Manager for approval
Refers all accounts exceeding designated authority level to higher level for approval
Provides support to sales staff. Attends agent meetings, conventions, trade shows, and visits agents as requested
Maintains OnBase files consistent with standard file procedures
Evaluates and compares competitor's forms and coverages
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by management
Qualification
Required
BA degree in insurance, business or related field preferred. Must attain or be working toward AU, CPCU, ARM designation or comparable higher insurance education
Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Property & Casualty Underwriter
Must have or attain within three (3) months and maintain a current property-casualty license for state of residence and other licenses as required
Has a proven and consistent level of high performance as an underwriter with the ability to underwrite large accounts, including thorough knowledge of all commercial insurance
Analytical ability is required to exercise underwriting judgment and make decisions
Organizational skills and ability to handle tasks on a priority basis required to maintain consistent high quality and quantity of work
Effective negotiation skills
Ability to work independently
Effective oral and written communication skills including formal and informal presentation skills
Ability to cope with stressful situations
Good research skills and detail oriented
Proficient in IT tools, and software applications
