Senior Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer (Hybrid-Puerto Rico)

Responsibilities
Communicate technical topics and issues in a clear and concise manner to both technical peers as well as non-technical team members
Conduct and provide constructive feedback during peer reviews. Mentor and document knowledge to provide technical guidance to both members of own team and beyond
Work proactively and in a self-driven manner with an integrated product team (IPT) to manage project scope and budget, as well as identify risks and opportunities
Participate in and lead investigations into highly complex, open-ended tasks. Search for and identify root cause of issues
Create military compliant designs that incorporate custom machined/sheet metal parts with a selection of commercial off the shelf items as required
Perform structural analysis of aerospace components including static, dynamic, thermal, fatigue life, fracture mechanics predictions and damage tolerance analyses to ensure such requirements as sizing, strength, and dynamic load are met throughout the design life-cycle
Design new products and processes, and improves and maintains existing products. Investigates pertinent design factors such as cost, ease of manufacture, tolerancing, availability and compatibility of materials and equipment, interchangeability, maintainability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements
Create 3D product models, outlines, and layouts Support product design reviews and coordinate work with project, engineering, and manufacturing teams
Qualification
Required
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written)
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
Preferred
Experience with finite element analysis software for structural and/or thermal considerations (NX NASTRAN, ANSYS tools, FlowTherm and/or ABAQUS FEA software)
Experience with the calculation and documentation of modal analysis, internal stress loading, fatigue, and margins of safety
Background in analysis and design of commercial industry standards and military electronics packaging form factors, chassis design, and electromechanical applications
Experience with 3D CAD software (Solidworks, Creo, CATIA, NX, or similar)
Direct experience with printed circuit board (PCB) designs. Can support tasks not directly mechanical such as component selection and layout to ensure mechanical environmental considerations are met
Practical experience in design and environmental mitigation for electronics packaging designs
Can apply and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
Knowledge of military standards such as MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-160, and MIL-STD-1472
Hands-on experience designing to meet and qualifying products for rugged environments
