TKDA is a company focused on civil engineering and transportation projects, and they are seeking a Summer Intern to join their Rail team. The intern will assist in various active projects related to site planning, roadway, utility, and track design, while gaining exposure to the project life cycle from conception through construction.

Responsibilities

Work alongside civil engineers and technicians

Engage in a variety of active projects for site planning, roadway, utility, parking lot, grading and drainage, storm water management, and track design projects

Contribute to the development of preliminary and final designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D

Perform calculations for project dimensions and elevations as well as earthwork, utilities, and track quantities

Assist with preliminary site assessments and surveys

Provide information and feedback on the construction status of projects and any potential construction or design-related challenges that may arise

Required

Undergraduate pursuing a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering

Previous experience or formal training with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation

Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills; Ability to ask questions and engage in discussions with team members and other internal contacts

Ability to work outdoors, walk and climb over rough terrain while carrying up to 40 pounds, and travel as needed for construction administration and site inspections/visits, etc

Must be at least 21 years of age by May 30, 2026, and in possession of a valid Driver's License with a clean driving record

Preferred

Previous coursework or project assignments related to site design and land development

General understanding of drafting techniques, plan development, and related engineering practices

Previous experience developing construction plans and specifications

Previous experience with construction administration or surveying responsibilities, including operation of instruments, recording and interpreting data, and staking
