Biomechanist
The Baltimore Orioles are seeking a Biomechanist for the 2026 Major League Baseball Championship season. This role is responsible for ensuring high quality data acquisition and practices at the motion capture lab, interpreting data, and assisting in player development across the organization.

Responsibilities
Primary duties to include, but not limited to the following:
Data Collection and Processing
Schedule motion captures with appropriate staff on site
Manage motion capture data collection sessions in the lab
Clean, tag, process, and upload all motion capture data
Motion Capture Lab Maintenance
Ensure that all equipment is fully operational at all times
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues with vendors to ensure all equipment runs optimally
Reporting and Player Development
Analyze and interpret biomechanics data from motion capture data collections
Write biomechanics reports based on data collected in the lab and in games to develop player development goals for performance and injury risk
Create visual reports to effectively communicate findings to appropriate staff (e.g. biomechanics, sports science, pitching, hitting, S&C, Medical, etc.)
Monitor biomechanical changes for athletes during the season (across games, within games, across lab sessions, within lab sessions, rehab progressions, etc.)
Research and Development
Develop new metrics and tools for biomechanics analysis
Develop new reporting media for communicating biomechanics analysis
Perform research connecting data across departments (eg. biomech, pitching, hitting, S&C, Medical, etc.) to on field performance and injury risk
Document all communications and research to maintain reproducibility
Collaboration and Communication
Communicate biomechanics findings from research and motion capture data collections with appropriate staff
Collaborate with appropriate staff to help create player development plans based on biomechanics findings and relevant information from other departments (eg. Biomechanics, sports science, pitching, hitting, S&C, Medical, etc.)
Qualification
Required
BS/MS/PhD - Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Engineering, or related technology field
Previous experience with motion capture technology (hardware and software)
Experience with Visual3D and/or OpenSim
Proficient in at least two (2) of the following: Matlab, Python, R, SQL
Strong communication and presentation skills (graphical, written, and verbal)
Desire to work with the Sports Performance department to help build a collaborative, organized system
Exercises high quality and ethics in the obtainment and use of data
Wants to work in a baseball setting
Ability and willingness to work extended hours/holidays as needed
Preferred
Certified Performance and Sports Scientist (CPSS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
