Pathology Associate
Neuralink is creating devices that enable a bi-directional interface with the brain, aiming to restore movement to the paralyzed and revolutionize human interaction with technology. The Pathology Associate will support the Pathology Team in evaluating tissue samples and performing essential laboratory tasks to advance preclinical research. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams and executing various technical procedures within the pathology pipeline.

Responsibilities
Perform foundational histological processes with precision, including tissue embedding, microtomy, and staining (e.g., H&E, special stains), to prepare high-quality slides for analysis
Assist in animal necropsies and tissue grossing procedures, ensuring high-quality sample preparation and documentation in compliance with study protocols
Operate whole-slide imaging (WSI) systems and conduct Micro-CT scanning to generate high-quality digital outputs for analysis
Execute precise data capture and analysis tasks, such as thread counting or assisting with algorithm tuning, to support data-driven insights
Support day-to-day laboratory operations, including the control of laboratory materials, supplies, and reagents, and assist with inventory system maintenance
Document experimental findings and procedures in compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and laboratory SOPs, and provide feedback on SOPs to support process improvement
Proactively collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., Pathology cores, Pathologists, Veterinary Medicine, Preclinical) to ensure clarity and efficiency in study-related processes
Assist in aggregating data and generating image exhibits or similar materials for reporting purposes, ensuring accurate and timely study documentation
Actively participate in a culture of challenge and continuous growth by seeking feedback, embracing learning opportunities, and pushing boundaries to improve personal and team performance
Share resources and information with Preclinical Scientists and Pathology team members in an egoless manner, prioritizing team-over-individual stewardship of R&D projects
Qualification
Required
BA/BS in Biology, Medical Laboratory Science, Neuroscience, Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, or an associate's degree with equivalent experience
At least 2 years of relevant experience working in a high complexity laboratory environment
Adept at carrying out technical procedures within the pathology pipeline with minimal guidance, in a regulatory-compliant environment
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams within the Preclinical Department
Preferred
Hands-on experience with one or more of the following: histology/microtomy, necropsy, digital slide scanning, or immunohistochemistry (IHC)
Experience with advanced or multimodal microscopic methods (e.g., confocal, lightsheet microscopy)
Basic experience with 3D modeling (CAD) or rapid prototyping (e.g., 3D printing) for creating custom lab tools or fixtures
Proficiency in a programming language (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data analysis, image processing, or task automation
Demonstrated ability to design or engineer novel solutions to technical challenges and collaborate effectively with engineering teams
Familiarity with basic anatomy, physiology, and the ability to recognize tissue abnormalities during microscopic preparation or staining
Experience working in a regulated laboratory environment (e.g., GLP, CLIA)
Familiarity with basic anatomy, physiology, or neuroscience
Demonstrated ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced research environment
