Dewberry is a leading professional services firm seeking a GIS Analyst Intern for Summer 2026 in their Fairfax, VA office. This role offers the opportunity to work on water resources projects for various clients while applying the latest technology in flood studies and risk assessments.

Responsibilities

Data feature extraction/compilation

Create a variety of digital mapping products using various software platforms

Capture and analyze data

Create and manipulate databases

Elevation data Processing and Manipulation

Assisting engineers in hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, modeling, and floodplain mapping

Production of Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMS) and updating related geospatial databases

Developing flood risk products and performing flood risk assessments

Perform analysis on GIS datasets for flood hazard mapping and risk projects

Checking for graphical and technical accuracy of FIRM deliverables and associated reports

Coordinating with the project team, project managers, clients, local communities, and other contractors to compile all data necessary to produce the most up-to-date product

Required

Currently working towards Bachelor's Degree or higher in geography, GIS, Remote Sensing or related field

Demonstrated proficiency with the ESRI ArcGIS Desktop

Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills

Participates in resolving technical challenges

Proficiency in basic computer applications, especially MS Office (Word, Excel, and Access)
