Director of Scheduling

Responsibilities
Lead the development and management of comprehensive construction schedules from engineering plans and specifications
Involve strategic oversight of trade partner schedules, weekly schedule analysis for ongoing projects, and the creation of integrated master schedules for all construction phases
Play a critical role in project phasing development, forensic schedule analysis of contract changes, and mentoring junior schedulers within the department
Define and execute a multi-year strategic roadmap for scheduling and planning in alignment with the company's 2030 growth plan
Position the company as a national leader in scheduling and project controls by developing scalable practices, best-in-class solutions, and data-informed risk tools
Lead the scheduling team to be a strategic driver of project value, not just a scheduling compliance function
Stay current with emerging scheduling and controls trends and competitive innovation in the AEC sector
Represent the firm externally at conferences, roundtables, and trainings to enhance brand perception and thought leadership
Oversee the enterprise-wide implementation of the SmartPM platform (or others as directed by company) resulting in real-time access to key risk metrics for project teams
Drive initiatives in planning, scheduling and project controls digital workflow optimization across preconstruction, operations, and field
Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, Preconstruction, VDC, Scheduling and Field Ops to drive seamless digital integration and field adoption
Break down internal silos and build repeatable, data-driven workflows within scheduling team that connect planning to measurable project outcomes and on-time project delivery
Lead and develop a multi-tiered department including planners, schedulers, sr. schedulers, and scheduling managers
Lead and grow a high-performing, geographically distributed scheduling organization that supports strategic market sector-based teams while driving consistency and innovation
Standardize best practices, scheduling protocols, and training across offices and teams to ensure excellence in conceptual planning, logistics, risk metrics, and schedule execution
Partner with HR and Learning & Development to build onboarding and career development programs for scheduling team
Support training and digital upskilling across the field operations team resulting in field execution excellence in scheduling management
Takes active role in coaching and mentoring people in the scheduling department
Responsible for all recommendations to senior leadership and executing on all staffing decisions including hiring, promotions, terminations, etc. for scheduling dept
Support pursuit and proposal teams with clear, organized, accurate and scalable solutions
Provide leadership support in major project pursuits, CMAR interviews, and project startup
Collaborate with precon, project directors and business development executives to ensure client-facing proposal solutions demonstrates field-executable value
Produce master project CPM schedules from contract documents for a diverse range of projects
Maintain and oversee complex and large project schedules
Conduct what-if scenarios, project risk analysis, manpower histograms, percent complete and pure logic diagram reports, and other scheduling reports as necessary
Collaborate with trade partners to enhance commitment and feedback to the master project schedule
Interface with other project teams and trade partners to provide scheduling data for subcontract change requests, bid comparisons, new work item estimates, and resolution of potential schedule impacts and claims
Provide overall technical direction for all project schedulers, ensuring compliance with project controls, standards, and procedures
Maintain liaison with project management, clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders on all planning and scheduling-related items and functions, including reporting requirements, progress status, and new impacts
Provide on-the-job training specific to scheduling practices for on-site project management, field operations, and trade partners
Travel to remote job sites as needed
Perform additional assignments from company leadership
Ensure regular, timely, and predictable attendance
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Provide schedule information to project schedule auditors
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
10+ years of scheduling experience, including reading/researching blueprints, or 10+ years of experience in onsite project management or superintendent experience
Expertise in Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling theory and P6 Pro Software
Strong understanding of safety protocols in the office and on the job site
Proficiency in principles of engineering, architectural plans, and construction cost estimation
Advanced knowledge of construction logic and sequencing
Proficiency in CPM and Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) fundamentals, with the ability to develop resource-loaded schedules
Strong knowledge of approved methods, materials, and devices used in general building and civil construction
Expertise in standard scheduling and reporting specifications
Proficiency in project earned value applications and assessment
In-depth knowledge of construction production rates for primary commodities in large commercial buildings, including demolition, excavation, pile driving, paving, steel construction, formwork, concrete placement, underground utilities, and tenant improvements
Strong ability to read plans and specifications and develop construction approaches with limited oversight
Ability to develop estimates and timelines from concepts and rough ideas
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish and build effective working relationships and high performing teams
Ability to work under deadlines and coordinate several concurrent deadlines
