Optical Technician

The Dimock Center is a federally qualified community health center that heals and uplifts individuals, families and communities. The Optical Technician will assist with day-to-day functions including patient interactions, processing orders for glasses and contact lenses, and managing administrative tasks to ensure excellent customer service and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

Greets patients in a friendly, welcoming, professional manner
Interprets eye exam results, using prescriptions written by Optometrists and Ophthalmologists
Advises patients on frame weights, materials, styles and colors
Recommends lenses, coatings and frames to suit customers’ needs
Measures, fits, repair and adjusts to determine suitable types and styles of frames
Prepares orders for glasses and contact lenses by checking prescriptions, lens thickness etc
Prepares glasses for patient pick up, and contacts patients to notify glasses are ready
Understands insurance to assist patients in their coverage and benefits
Assists with inventory and billing
Maintains patient recall systems to notify patients of annual reminders for appointments
Patient scheduling, and follow ups
Responsible for the maintenance of department specific cash funds, balancing and submission of daily cash receipts
Manages patient flow, including interacting with providers and clinical support staff
Responsible for clerical accuracy and documentation
Answers incoming telephone calls and inquiries for the department
Monitors inventory of supplies and notifies supervisor as needed
Attends staff meetings as required
Assist with front desk duties when needed
Other duties as assigned
Adheres to The Dimock Center’s policies regarding attendance and tardiness
Follows policies related to work and breaks
Assists in meeting scheduling needs in helping to cover for absences, emergencies, times of heavy workload, holidays, and vacations

Required

High School diploma
Experience in a medical office setting
Excellent customer service skills
Dependability and punctuality
Flexibility with work schedules
Ability to manage administrative responsibilities

Ability to manage patient flow
Ability to answer incoming telephone calls and inquiries

Preferred
