Sheetmetal/Roofing Technician II
The University of Southern Mississippi is currently accepting applications for the position of Sheetmetal/Roofing Technician II. The role involves performing journeyman level construction, installation, alteration, and repair of sheetmetal products and roofing systems in accordance with blueprints and work orders.
Research
Responsibilities
Performs journeyman level construction, installation, alteration or repair of sheetmetal products and equipment such as ducts and hoods for heating, air-conditioning, and exhaust systems through the use of blueprints, drawings, and work orders
Determines type, gauge, and amount of material required for performance of work. Assembles ducts, hoods, and other sheetmetal products; solders and bolts connections; applies insulation as required; and inspects assemblies and installation for conformance with specifications
Performs journeyman level roofing repair work on a variety of roofing materials and forms, assembles, installs, and inspects gutters, downspouts, flashing, and other sheetmetal roofing materials
Coordinates and participates in the setting up and operating of equipment such as power saws, drill presses, hand and power shears, pan and box brakes, lock-formers, cleat benders, and rollers to cut, punch, thread, and form sheetmetal
Performs operational checks of ducts and other sheetmetal installations to determine corrective action to be taken to include maintenance and repair
Follows a predetermined schedule of preventive maintenance
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Associates degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid Drivers License
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
Ability to write simple correspondence
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
