The role involves performing radiological procedures, ensuring patient safety, and providing quality care in accordance with established protocols.

Responsibilities

Identify patients by name and birth date. Reviews order for clinical and demographic consistency and verify accuracy

Interviews patient for clinical history, reviews of previous procedures and documents relevant history for the Radiologist

Explain procedures to patients. Explain and obtain consent for contrast if needed

Prepares patient for procedure ensures prep performed if needed and checks for any artifact-producing objects. Correctly position patient for examination to be performed

Orders/performs correct examination

Performs procedures in accordance with established protocols and in a timely manner

Correctly operates radiology equipment

Preparation/administration of oral and IV contrast

Performs venipuncture utilizing sterile technique (for those with the competency)

Recognizes and responds to emergency situations

Follows ALARA principles: wears film badge, uses patient shielding, repeat rate, etc

Qualification

ARRT registrationBLS certificationCT cross-trainingVenipuncturePatient communication

Required

Must become ARRT registered within 3 months of hire if not already registered

BLS within 3 months of hire

Cross-trained as a CT within one year of hire
