Instrumentation Technician- Austin Industrial (Taylor, TX)
Austin Industrial is a premier maintenance and construction service provider in the U.S. They are seeking an Instrumentation Technician who will be responsible for testing, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation devices to ensure optimal operating performance. The role requires reading blueprints and schematics, as well as performing maintenance tasks in a plant environment.

Responsibilities
Reads and works from related blueprints and other schematic drawings
Calibrates, installs and/or removes various instrumentation devices
Cuts, bends and installs tubing needed for the proper installation of the instrumentation device
When needed, reads and understands quality control manuals and testing specifications in order to obtain data needed to test or calibrate specific devices
Sets controls to regulate factors, such as current flow, timing cycle, pressure or vacuum, or temperature according to specifications
As needed, disassembles instrument or device in order to determine cause of defective operation or failure
Rejects malfunctioning devices and routes to specified departments for repair or salvaging of survivable parts
Layout, fabricate and install tubing and tub trays
Apply knowledge of mathematics to instrumentation, such as ratio and proportions, numbers with power of 10’s, algebra equations, English-to-metric conversion, inches of water to PSI, inches of mercury to PSI, etc
Read blueprints, schematics and loop drawings and prepare job reports
Assemble and disassemble all types of electronic process controls, pneumatic controls and hydraulic systems and components
Calibrate equipment using common calibration procedures and be able to read, interpret, apply and know where to find other procedures
Understand the principles of pH and redox and equipment needed to measure them and be able to control the pH and redox of a liquid
Understand steam and how it reacts to different situations, (e.g. saturation properties)
Work with the principles of chemistry and physics required in instrumentation such as specific gravity, density of liquids and solids, mechanical advantages, proportions of liquids, melting points, freezing points, boiling points of liquids, etc
Troubleshoot and check out electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using proper test equipment
Understand fundamental instrumentation loops and how they function as a loop, and what the function of each component part is in each type of loop
Understand common types of chemical plant process equipment such as distillation columns, heat exchangers, boilers, turbines and compressors
Apply the procedures for measuring pressure level, flow, temperature, weight, density, heat flux, humidity and moisture, etc
Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet state regulations

Qualification
Required
High school diploma
Journeyman experience in maintenance training
8 plus years Journeyman experience
Ability to test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul and repair controlling, indicating and measuring instrument devices
Ability to read and understand manuals, blueprint schematics and testing specifications
Some knowledge of electrical schematics and PLCs
Ability to read blueprints, schematics and loop drawings and prepare job reports
Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics to instrumentation
Ability to understand the principles of pH and redox and equipment needed to measure them
Ability to understand steam and how it reacts to different situations
Ability to work with the principles of chemistry and physics required in instrumentation
Ability to troubleshoot and check out electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using proper test equipment
Ability to understand fundamental instrumentation loops and how they function
Ability to understand common types of chemical plant process equipment
Ability to apply the procedures for measuring pressure level, flow, temperature, weight, density, heat flux, humidity and moisture
Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet state regulations
Applicants must be legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States
Preferred
Plant Maintenance experience preferred
NCCER, TDLR Electrical License a plus
