Responsibilities
Utilizes unit specific equipment safely and appropriately (Autoclave, microscopes, etc.)
Following surgical procedure, readies surgical suite and properly disposes of instruments
Is knowledgeable of procedures and prepares for potential emergencies by assuring equipment and instrumentation is available
Actively participates in Universal Protocol practices as appropriate
Communicates clearly and appropriately with other surgical team members (circulator/physician)
Handles and labels specimens according to policy
Performs surgical counts accurately (when applicable)
Utilizes universal precautions including protective eye-wear
Accurately gathers appropriate instruments and supplies for all assigned cases
Utilizes principles of aseptic technique and maintains sterile conscience
Qualification
Required
High School graduate or GED equivalent
Certification preferred
Utilizes unit specific equipment safely and appropriately (Autoclave, microscopes, etc.)

Work requires a variety of physical activities, including moving about within and outside of all hospital properties for long periods of time
Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergent situations
May be required to assist in controlling disorderly conduct or combative patients
Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel
