Lead Sterile Processing Technician

Responsibilities
Performs instrument production, case assembly, sterile processing, decontamination of surgical instruments in compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local and federal requirements
Participates in quality improvement initiatives
Functions as a preceptor to new hires
Assumes role of supervisor in supervisor’s absence
Manages the reprocessing cycle for surgical instrumentation, including disassembly, decontamination, disinfection, inspection, testing, assembly, packaging, labeling, and sterilization
Cares for and operates ultrasonic cleaners, washers, sterilizers, and other equipment
Completes quality monitoring and documentation
Performs quality assurance activities
Responsible for supply inventory management and clinic instrument rounds
Mentoring, training, coaching, and role modeling of new Sterile Processing Technicians
Serves as leader for the department to promote teamwork within the department and with other departments
Performs all duties with a commitment to excellence in quality and customer service
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Possessing an SPD-Relevant Certification (CRCST or CBSPD)
Minimum of 2 years of SPD experience
Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination
Must be certified and maintain a certification in sterile processing as a CRCST - HSPA or CBSPD
Ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of processes
Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing
Basic computer skills required
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure health care environment
Excellent interpersonal skills required
Detail oriented required
Ability to perform job functions while standing
Ability to perform job functions while sitting
Ability to perform job functions while walking
