Technician (Public Safety Communications Specialist I)

Responsibilities

Installs, maintains, and repairs emergency lighting equipment, mobile antenna systems, siren amplifier systems, radio control heads, map lights, strobe lighting equipment, radio consoles, trunk mount transceivers, undercover lighting equipment, scanners, flashing devices and other specialized equipment
Performs preventive maintenance on safety equipment, two-way radios and antenna systems
Maintains equipment, vehicles, and infrastructure at the main facility and other locations
Operates testing and measuring equipment, including voltmeters, ohmmeters, watt meters and current meters
Maintains databases and logbooks for service, equipment, maintenance, and inventory records
Safely operates a variety of electronic and power equipment, such as chop saws, table saws, grinders, etc
Effectively communicates with other employees and vendors for the purpose of resolving technical problems and meeting timelines
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with city officials, employees, the general public and vendors
Maintains an organized, clean, and safe work area
Provides excellent customer service
Performs related duties as assigned

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
One year of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of public safety equipment or related education and job experience
Possession of a valid California driver's license

Preferred

Related technical certification(s) highly desirable

Effective Holiday Leave: Eight (8) fixed holidays
Insurance: Medical – SBRPCA offers a cafeteria plan and pays a maximum of $1450 per month toward active employees’ premiums for health and dental insurance. SBRPCA pays 100% of the premium cost for vision care and $100,000 in life insurance.
Retirement Plan: The Authority offers excellent retirement benefits, as reflected in the Memorandum of Understanding for the Teamsters bargaining group.
Sick Leave: Full-time employees who have completed three months of continuous service are eligible for paid sick leave. Sick leave is earned at a rate of seven (7) hours per month.
Vacation Time: Full-time employees who have completed twelve months of continuous service are eligible for paid vacation leave. Vacation leave is earned and accrued as follows: less than five years of service – six (6) hours per month; five through nine years – eight (8) hours per month; ten or more years – ten (10) hours per month. A one-time award of 48 hours’ vacation leave is granted upon successful completion of probation.
Deferred Compensation: $125 matching funds per month toward an employee's deferred compensation contribution.
Volunteer participation is also available for credit union, ICMA deferred compensation and payroll direct deposit programs.
